The new RTE app has appeared on my ipad, it works but without any sound....any idea what I need to do to get the sound to work ???

It also pauses the ads if you go to browse in another tab which is disgusting.

No sound problems on an ipad for me. Did you try deleting and reinstalling the app?

anyone able to download episodes from the new beta ? i used to use youtube-dl from the old player but i can't see to find anything that works for the new site . we have a group posting irish content on reddit http://reddit.com/r/teilifis/ . thanks

Go into control center and enable system sounds. Sadly the player is tied to that whereas apps like Netflix aren’t. It’s a stupid way they’ve handled it.

I have done this, no joy, I have also deleated and reinstalled the app, again no joy, still no sound !! :mad:

After years of trying to purchase a copy of Bachelor’s Walk to no avail. I’m delighted to find it on the new RTÉ Player!! The binge watching starts tonight...:)

Did anyone with an LG tv get a further update which downgraded the player back to the old version?

The new player was brilliant but got taken down very quickly. That said it stopped working for about two days before the downgrade - just locked on the Netflix-like loading screen.

After binge watching all three series on the Player, I was suffering withdrawals ..... I’d been wondering whatever happened to the lads after they left the house in Bachelor’s Walk.

I spotted your post this morning and ended up I watching the Christmas Special before breakfast! All the loose ends from series three were tied up nicely in the end

I wish RTÉ would make more comedy drama like this instead of forcing Amy Hubermann’s humouress sh1te on us.

I used to enjoy watching Pure Mule back in the day, RTÉ should stick that up on the Player too.

I think that and Pure Mule were the only RTE programmes I ever thought were good.

Absolutely dreadful, trying to play via iPhone with Apple TV. Of course the endless adverts never have any issue playing.

Screen locks knocks it off, so you have to remember to adjust screen lock settings. This doesn’t happen with Netflix or even YouTube, why can’t this player be the same.

When it does eventually play for me, if it cuts to ad break, once the adverts are finished it’s starts the episode again front the start.

I get one, sometimes two ads, then it just stops with a minute or 30 seconds of ads left and that's it.

Yeah, happens on the chrome version also. Going back to the start of an episode, then when you skip you have to watching ads again, and again, and again.

Keep getting a "protected content" error! Looks like some kind of geo-block for NI (even on things that we were able to watch on the old player).

Just tried the web player on Firefox on linux. Even though I have no adblocker installed, still get ...

"It seems that your computer is running ad blocking software. In order to watch content on RTE player, please disable your ad blocker for www.rte.ie."

So tried it on Chromium:
"Security Error
This protected content cannot be played on the current system."

So still as crap as it used to be , and I'm still getting no TV for E160 a year, and my level of despite for RTE has increased yet again

Tried it yesterday, the ads work OK (surprise) but the content doesn't - tried 2 shows and same fault... Audio works but video stays as a still.
Other video apps work OK, stream both video and audio OK.

Watching Bachelors Walk Season 1 at the moment. Can only remember bits and pieces of it from the original run but remember all the main actors. Its gas that something that was filmed relatively recently probably would have to change a good bit if filmed today.

Affair with underage school girl: Check. There would probably be outrage about this today.
Drink driving constantly is not an issue: Check.
Smoke as many cigarettes as possible where ever you wanted : Check.

Christ those were the days, i miss the early 2000s in Dublin..

can't watch anything though my vpn anymore. can't download anything using youtube-dl .
Does anyone have a reasonable solution. Lot of xpats stuck in the same boat. thanks

Yeah, I got exactly that. I was delighted to see the updated player with all the box-sets and so on. I was looking forward to re-watching Love/Hate that way and then, a day or two later it was just a title screen for the app with no function. Next thing I know, it's back to the (comparatively) useless previous version.
