The "Provision of Objective Sex Education Bill 2018" is anything but objective.

It turns out that gender is just a matter of opinion. Unless, of course, you're a man with an opinion. Then your gender is definitely male, and definitely bad.

It took us millions of years to figure this out, but here we are. The Brave New World.

    Isn't it ironic how:

Back in the old days it was ordinary rational people fighting against the religiously indoctrinated to protect children from harm.

Nowadays its ordinary rational people fighting against the Marxist zealots who are trying to harm the children in pretty much the exact same way.

Of course both parties claim to have the childrens best interests at heart.

For anyone interested in having a say (that includes everyone, even those I fundamentally disagree with) here's where you can have your say on the forthcoming Pornography For Children Review (or the "review of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE)" as the Department of Kiddy Fiddlers likes to call it:

    https://www.ncca.ie/en/updates-and-events/consultations/review-of-relationships-and-sexuality-education-rse

Please also read Doctor Caroline West who is a big proponent of the "RSE" bill. She kindly supplied the above link before she blocked me on twitter. For those who haven't heard of her, she has a PhD in pornography and.. um... teaches in DCU. I know... "You're a tin-foil-hat-wearing-lunatic" I hear you say.. Nope, I didn't believe it myself and it seems she's actually the real mccoy. At least according to twitter and linkedin. Here she is on twitter: https://twitter.com/CarolineWest_IE

    Tell her I said hello.

It’s based on best practice across Europe and only loonatics still repressed by catholic Ireland still think teaching children about their sexuality is wrong.

Teaching kids about sexuality is wrong?

Nope. I'm teaching my kids about sexuality in an age appropriate manner. Nothing is taboo with me, I'm just careful about what I share with my kids. You know, like a responsible parent is supposed to do.

    Repressed?

Nope. I've been about as liberal as you can be because I thought it was "correct". I've experienced how destructive it was to myself and those around me. Lessons learned. It brings nothing but misery. At least now I understand why.

    Catholic?
Wrong again. I'm not religious though I have a lot of respect for religion and don't mock people's beliefs. I was quite religious when I was young but lost it all. The one thing I held on to was being against abortion on demand. Now I'm bringing back a few other healthy attitudes into my life.

Anything else? Always happy to chat!

It's no longer old school strict catholics (if any remain), now Europe has to bend to other religions, perhaps Birmingham in the uk, is a prime example what's to come, as many who want the (national) DfE curriculum there altered, to suit their own views.

Yep, but it's only Catholic "loonies" that aren't allowed to comment. Muslim "loonies" are OK. Isn't that right Brian?

How do you think sex education should be taught in schools?

    1) More emphasis on the relationship angle, flirting, what is (generally) attractive etc. Really, I knew about the mechanics from early teenage years, but how does a guy talk about sex with a girl without just pestering for it?

    2) Full on realistic porn movie reviews. What's real and what is a porn-specific overdramatisation. No filters are going to stop teenagers from watching hard porn, so let's explain that fisting is not for a first date, m'ok?

  • Registered Users Posts: 512 ✭✭✭dvdman1

LGBTQ issues dont fit into the subject of sex education for Catholics muslims and other faiths aswell as people who simply disagree with that lifestyle....to force this on them is against there faith and beliefs.
This is why people seperate rights and respect for others in subjects like sphe from the subject of sex education.
Sex is not a defining personality trait...most sensible catholics and muslims know this.

"Pornograpy for Children review from the Department of Kiddy Fiddler's"...? Yeah, very open minded and liberal!!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Vic, I'm sorry you're having problems dating. It's a tricky one. If you're expecting school to sort that one out for you then I'm afraid you'll most likely die a virgin.

If you want to watch porn there's this thing called the internet. You're on the internet right now- it so happens so you're half way there. My kids don't need to learn about porn until an appropriate age, when, with a bit of luck, they'll conclude it's for sad and lonely people.

I've seen and done it all. Enjoyed it in the moment, then thought back on it. It's retarded. Waste of time. Humans and relationships are the only thing that matters.

No, I'm not at all liberal on the question of destroying childrens lives. Quite close-minded in fact.

The sex ed classes I got were actually atrocious, before I delve in, I'd like to point out that I'm late 20's and received this info in 2008 so the "it was a different time" argument doesn't even excuse it:

    1. A detailed list of all possible std's (fine)
    2. A detailed list of different contraceptive methods BUT proceeded with the disclaimer "If you use any of these methods then you're going against your religion so you need to take that into account before deciding whether or not to use contraception"
    3. "STD's don's exist for dogs, dog can hump all day long and will never catch an STD, this is because dogs were designed to have more than one sexual partner. Humans on the other hand can get STD's when they have sex so this is a sign that humans just aren't designed to have more than one sexual partner"
    4. Sex doesn't feel that good and isn't worth the risk, teacher told us we'd all probably be disappointed when we have it.

It was an all girls school, they would have said absolutely anything to us to put us off the idea of having sex for rest of our lives.

What I think they should have taught us was points 1 and 2 but without the disclaimer plus some info on consent and porn. One or two classes for 5/6th years just to point out that things like choking aren't really first date territory and should be thoroughly discussed before being attempted.

Ignorance and close-mindedness is exactly what destroys people's mind, you don't need to point this out!

Oh and BTW I've noticed that the facebook link you posted earlier is from Gript Media, run by Youth Defence, that other bunch of balanced and objective and not unhinged at all people.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

No surprises there, a religion seeking to oppress people and grab influence, power and money for itself. Same as the rest of them.

A child cannot consent. Stupid comparison.

Actually, your links are an excellent argument to get ALL religions out of Irish schools, now.

Hows incest rights sitting with your open mind?
Sure with modern advances in medicine the health implications are over played...love is love right?

You will not decide the age when your kids are exposed by porn, unless you restrict them from talking to friends and prevent them from using the internet. You want to keep your kids ignorant, so they will have to figure what's good and what is bad themselves, probably by making bad mistakes. Good luck to them.

Sex is not retarded. I am sorry for you if you think this way.

The idea that parents have any sort of control over when their child gets introduced to porn is laughable. Porn is a fantasy and it creates misguided views of sex and consent, the proposed curriculum looks to teach children this because these are children who will grow up to live in a society where misconceptions regarding sex and consent can have serious consequences.

One of the authors of the guidelines for RSE, Kate Dawson, explores porn related themes with children.

    Themes such as..

    Anal ass eating
    Bareback
    Cumshot
    Doggy Dildo
    Fisting
    Gangbang
    And many more...

what age group is that? I'd say at least 5th years, probably 6th. 'ass eating'? it was called 'rimming' back when i was in school

She didn't teach them these terms, these are terms the children already know, that's the point she's trying to make. This why we need decent Sex Ed because children are already getting a terrible one from the porn industry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,145 ✭✭✭✭Geuze

All children do not know these terms.

Even if some do, we should not be introducing all children to such obscenity.

The fact that they may come across these terms when they are older is not a reason to introduce these terms to second-level children.

A general statement about pornography - ok, fair enough.

But this level of detail - no way.

Anyways, find me the teacher who will "teach" these terms???

Has our society fallen so low that we would devote time in schools to such discussion?

    God Help Us.
