Must have been aldi then...we get them every year for 4 euros. I think lidl reduces the prices during peak winters afaik.

Yeah, got them in both Aldi and Lidl for €3.99 last winter. What price they go on sale at in Aldi this year will be very telling.

Yeah, I reckon they waited until after the budget to stock them in case a carbon tax increase would kick in straight away and they'd have to reprice.

I imagine Lidl will drop their price to match. Must check next time I'm in.

Last year I remember they didn't appear in my local Lidl until well into the Winter and they were €4.99 the whole time.

Are the briquettes in Aldi BNM briquettes? I remember getting some there before that weren't BNM, they were lighter and didn't burn so well.

The last few winters it's BNM briquettes they've stocked. Previous to that, they were from Latvia or Estonia if I remember correctly.

Any good deals on good quality charcoal for BBQ?

Providers of Longford, €3.99 per bale.

What I actually like about the Aldi Briquettes is they are always dry. I hate getting them when they are left out in the rain.
