I thought you can make an appointment? Turning up randomly without an appointment is always going to be hit or miss depending on the day or time.

If you book a time slot on line it’s the best/quickest way to be seen on the day. You just might have to book it a week or two in advance. However, how quickly you’re seen as a walk in depends on the location and time of day that you go. I recently went to the one in Naas on a Saturday morning. I arrived 10 minutes before opening, as did about 10 other people, some of whom had appointments and the rest of us were walk-ins. I only had to wait about 20 minutes thanks to two people with the wrong documents and one no-show for a pre-booked appointment.

I did a walk-in appointment and thought it a bit of a shock when I was given a wait time of 4 and a half hours. However, the woman there said that a load of people who hit the appointment button will often hit it more than once. And a good few of the names called received no response. Actual wait time was just over an hour, so not too bad.

Ironically, I think the long wait time that's stated probably helps keep the actual wait time down. I bet a lot of people look at it and go, "Ah, here, f*** this." and endeavour to book an appointment or come at an earlier time in the day.

I went to renew my license on Saturday two weeks ago in Cork. At 9am the queue was curving around Crowford and Co pub. Took ab 10 min to get the tickets - I think I was N72 and it took in total 3h15min. I calculated they were processing roughly 20 people per hour with walk-in numbers and maybe another 5 people ah hour with online appointments. The girl at the booth said it’s Brexit as UK citizens are rushing to change the licenses before the “deadline”.
Btw, got the new license in post today - ab 7 working days.

Went last week on the morning after storm Lorenzo. Figured it might me quiet. Got there about 8.40. Only one guy before me. Was out by 9.30. One appointment & the guy ahead of me. Was a queue of about 10 people by 9 oclock.
