Can't remember the last time it was good value on hotels etc. I only book flights with airlines these days, learned the hard way when neither the agent nor the airline wanted to help me, telling me it was the other's responsibility

No experience of lastminute.com Have used Vayama and Expedia for flights and Agoda and Expedia for accommodation. No problems except Expedia a bit to respond with refunds.

Last time I used lastminute.com (2017) they channelled my hotel reservation through booking.com ... Only booked with LM because I got a hefty rebate from booking on LM through yet another site.

I had a bad experience with them. Booked a secret hotel in Berlin, when I got there there was no reservation for me. The hotel couldn't get through to them and there was an expensive premium line for customers to ring. Got sorted eventually but it wasted a few hours of my holiday.

I've used them just for flights, they're often cheaper than booking through airlines especially if you're booking long distance connecting flights from Ireland. If there's ever any problems (time changes etc) then I always deal directly with the airline anyway and never had any issues.

why use a middle man ? any problems it's just another layer between you and the supplier

I've never found that, you can still go directly to the airline if you have problems not the middle man.

For example, I had flights booked through Expedia last year and the flights times were changed significantly so that I'd have to take extra time off work. Contacted the Ethiopian Airlines directly and they changed me to a different flight for free because the change was so significant. Another time I was having trouble booking seats on the airline website, can't remember what airline it was but I phoned them and they sorted it for me.

The reason to use a middleman is usually because it often works out a lot cheaper (this is mostly true for people traveling long distances with multiple flights, obviously if I was just travelling to Europe or the US point to point I'd book directly). I booked a multi-stop trip on Vayama recently to Brazil, Chile & Argentina....priced the exact same flights on the airline websites and it was almost €1100 more.

I used them recently and they are awful, avoid, book direct with the airline.
