Lapiz blue for a new Passat?

I'm thinking of speccing a new Passat and considering going with Lapiz blue.

I love it on the Golf R but not sure if it's a bit too strong on a bigger car like the Passat?

Opinions welcome.

Maybe the Manganese grey is a safer bet? Easier to keep clean probably.

I think* it is a lovely colour, really stands out and you should go for it.

*As this is me saying it, in real life this means you're probably better off playing it safe and go for grey/silver boredom like everybody else...just for re-sale and all that jazz

Resale, the only concern to the Irish when we buy anything.
Feck that, if you like it and it puts a smile on your face, buy it. Life's too short to worry about resale.

I love it, beautiful colour. And a nice change from the usual sea of greys, blacks and silvers.

Correct. Frank Hogan's. Never dealt there, just drove in there last week for a look round.

Loved the car but it's a manual. The 2.0L dsg petrol is the one I'd be interested in if I do decide on a Passat though.

Is that the 190bhp? What is the pricing like versus the diesel?

This must be a very recent thing, because they’ve never offered Lapiz blue on anything other than the Golf R before. Bit strange!

I’d say go for it, absolutely. I had it on an R myself and it certainly catches the eye.

Not a bad price vs the diesel but when did the Passat get so dear? I thought you’d get the 240 Bi TDI for that money

It's only been available with the recent facelift Passat.

43k is very saucy for a petrol Passat, another 9k gets you into a BMW 520i with similar performance.

Agreed it's pretty saucy but the R Line Passat is pretty well equipped and I'd guess the 520i with a similar spec would run to well over 55K.

What does that 9k get you if the performance is similar, apart from a badge?

I'm in a similar situation. I have a 172 2.0 Tdi 150bhp Passat Highline with the tech pack. I'd really like to change to an A6/520D next year when my PCP is up. The big issue is that my Passat is so well specced I would have to spend a lot on an A6/520D to get close to the spec level. My car has the full digital dash, adaptive cruise control, rear camera, lane assist, Apple Carplay, full leather, 18's, etc.
Might look at the A4 but it feels a bit smaller.

I'm looking at the facelift A4 petrol too, though it's not in the showrooms yet, but I'm not mad about the facelift from what pictures and videos I've seen tbh.

There's a very large screen perched up on the dash that looks way too big and ugly. The Passat has a lot more spec (and screen is down below the dash) for similar money and even though I love the A4, I think the new version is a bit of an ugly duckling, but I'll wait till I see it and sit in it.

Have a look at the Volvo S90 T4 - retail is 48500 and I think they have all that spec you’ve mentioned and are a real 5 series / E class competitor now

No offense but go and drive a new 5 series or even new model 3 series and then a Passat and come back to us! These are rightly considered benchmarks and even in base SE spec are nowadays very well equipped.

A base 520i even in SE trim is well equipped these days. 190bhp, 8 speed auto transmission, leather heated electric seats, widescreen infotainment system, etc, all standard. The only thing I can see it missing as standard over the Passat is adaptive cruise control but VW's Audi offer it as an option too.

You seem to be missing the point. There used to be about 15k or more of a gap between a non premium and premium brand not so long ago. I'll turn the question around and ask what does the Passat offer now to only be 9k cheaper than a 520i?

If that question is for me, I didn't deal with anyone in Hogans. I just drove in there last week for a look around and spotted the new Passat R Line. It was parked up and locked so I only had a brief walk around it and took a few pics.

You seem to have your mind made up on buying a Passat but before you do the new Peugeot 508 is a stunner and well worth a look. I might be a bit smaller than the Passat and maybe not as spacious in the rear but if that is not a problem for you then its well worth looking at and taking for a test drive.

These garages sell 1,000s of cars are among the most successful garages sales wise. If they were so bad why aren't people heeding your "advice"?

I’m not naive enough to go into the specifics on-thread.

FWIW I actually had a good experience with the service in Al Hayes’s in Portumna a few months ago.
