A fair amount of dosh for a 3 Series but there are a fair amount of options ticked on that one.

Any sign of you getting your hands on the new 1 Series soon? I've seen a few reviews online of the new M135i version and some interesting comparisons between it and the old M140i. xdrive 4 cylinder v rwd straight six.

Great to see so many ICE powerplants in new ranges..... Especially in the likes of the 3 series.

This is the most dangerous thread on boards, liking the sound of the new 545e, it combined with an LCI update sounds very very nice and unless the government makes big changes to hybrids during the budget it could actually be quite a reasonable buy.

The X5 45e is another interesting prospect, works out fairly reasonable with a lot of options ticked considering it’s a brand new X5. Would imagine they would sell pretty well, don’t see any reason to buy a diesel over one of them at all

Nice review Mark and it looks like a lovely car reminded me how I felt about my e39 530i sport, a car I still haven't found anything better than. Big problem now though is how fast it loses value.
You can pick up a 330e from UK now for about 16k euro for a 2016 model with decent mileage on it or a really well specced low miler msport for well under 20k. Can't see the 330i faring any better.
Thats what you'll be faced with if you pay 60k for a 3 series now, ball park anyway.
The depreciation on these things is Savage and severe and can't be overlooked for a private buyer. I got a 530d for myself and an a6 for the girlfriend both 4 years old for under 20k and at the time I thought it was a steal but now I'm looking around I realise it wasn't... That's all they are worth. You wouldn't believe the low ball offers I got when looking at moving up a few years, like I haven't been offered over 15k by any dealer for either of them while they value their own stock highly.
Only decent offer was from Audi North Dublin against a brand new A6 (which is a class act) , I was offered 25k off the car for either of my cars but retail was 60k so I'm sure there was plenty of buffer there.

I know two people who have traded in 5 series for the new A6 partly on the basis that they were offered much better trade in against the Audi over another BMW. Audi must have bigger margin to play with.

I agree. This thread has potential to drain the wallet.
The only downside of the x5 45e is lack of seven seats due to the battery which is the main reason we have one.
The 545e is intriguing, and I would be interested to see a review of the model 3 Tesla too Mark if possible. Mid 60’s gets a performance model whose speed would blow away the 330i in the real world. I would like to see an honest opinion on the build quality. Also judging from the model 3 thread Tesla aren’t really treating Ireland too seriously so I would be worried about customer care post purchase.
    I assume you’re still going ahead @digiman?

I’ll have a P90 in a week or two but I don’t see a 3 happening to be honest. Tesla not taking Ireland too seriously is right!

Maybe they do. But while I can't pick between the 5 series f10 BMW and the Audi a6 c7, I think the Audi new model is far more impressive than the BMW. But that's just my opinion.
Anyway I've capped myself at paying mid 20 thousands for cars for now there's just too many other things I'd prefer to spend my money on even if reviews like Marks do get me thinking. They don't be long dropping to that level anyway

I'm kinda set on 530e now. 17 or 18 from UK. Doesn't seem to be huge extra cost for 18 models.
18 will give a very healthy warranty so that's a big consideration.

They really don't have the nice bits though until you spend silly money.

Reading all about dealers low balling everyone on trade in etc and considering I'm buying straight with my own funds in place, how cheeky should someone be if walking into a bmw dealer here?
In UK, the price seems to be the price in car supermarkets. A little movement at main dealers over there but they don't seem to build in a trade in allowance like here.

    740e too expensive.
I'm looking at UK 530e msport around 27k sterling.
    About 33k on Irish plates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I can’t see a BMW dealer here getting anywhere close to 33k for a 2018 530e. They really are the bargain buys from the uk along with the 330e at the moment. Try and get the m sport plus pack if you can find though . They are a super car for that sort of money.

If you were to approach an Irish dealer you could look for 4/5 k off for cash which is not too cheeky. Considering we are in a quiet period for car sales and you have no trade in a dealer might have air a smaller profit to move metal but I would guess the best you would get may be 3k. There’s no harm in asking though if you can find one that suits your needs and I suppose the convenience of an Irish purchase has to have some value too.

What does the plus pack get you in those?
A see a few external touches but does it add spec internally?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭carsfan2

With regards to the m 340i video I posted, if you look in the description you can see the car retails for 50k plus in the UK but the dealer is offering them for 43k on the road!
They really do get massive discounts on new BMW’s over there.makes me very jealous when I think a basic 318d is probably 43k here.

Harman kardon speakers, 20” alloys, privacy glass and boot spoiler I think.

Does the standard m sport do android auto or screen mirroring?
Also, some seem to have full digital dash pod while other have physical curved sections outlining the Speedo.
Is the full digital one much nicer in reality?

No android auto or screen mirroring on any BMW models.
All uk or Irish cars have the full digital dials which have the physical outlines around the speedo and rev counter which is a bit pointless really and superfluous. They have done away with it for current builds and replaced it with the same digital dials as the 3 series but obviously this won’t apply to cars you are looking at.

Alot of the 2018 versiins I look at don't have the physical mark around the dials.

Sorry I stand corrected. I remember now that they took them away sometime in 2018 leaving the blank screen which looks better.I think they took the chrome off the door handles around then too.

So it's just the same display without the rings. I thought they might have brought in a more adjustable display like audi where the dials can be reduced and sat nav displayed large right in the centre.

Bmw only support Apple CarPlay as far as I know on any of their cars so it would most likely have CarPlay but definitely won’t have Android auto.

    New m135i has landed:

just under 64k but not sure if that's a starting price or for the well specced one in the video. I'm not a fan of that grill though, the more I look at it the more I hate it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Apple car play is a yearly subscription service with BMW.
Typical gouging from them unfortunately. Some people that paid up front got a notice subsequently that their car play was ending on a future date. I think some fought this and BMW relented but for now it is a yearly service.

Bazz, I think the M135i starts 52k but very easy to get to 60k plus.hate the grille too and the cerium grey bits in general. I think a black grille would be an improvement.

That starting price must put it directly in competition with the Golf R.

Absolutely. It’s getting great reviews except for the fact it doesn’t have the three litre six cylinder engine anymore.
I would prefer a less obvious colour than the blue one in Morrissons too.

I think the front end is terrible looking. Looks like a 2 series active tourer.
