Bitcoin bounced off bottom of the triangle which started in June, shows there's definitely something to the old TA. Whales probably luring us in to some sense of knowledge.

Yes it is impressive how it has been perfectly following the descending triangle pattern - maybe some of it is a self fulfilling prophecy with people stopping where TA tells them to stop both upwards and downwards. But it won’t last forever and the same TA tells us that when the triangle is closed (soon), we should see massive price action ... thing is it doesn’t tell us for sure which direction that move will be! :-)

If only there was some TVIX for Bitcoin, be minted!

I'm also seeing an ascending triangle / massive bull flag on the larger scale.

So Bakkt is going live tomorrow and Bitcoin is now about to close the triangle patterns it has been in for weeks.

Everything seems lined up for massive price action in the coming weeks or 2 ... but the question is in which direction.

I’m really slip 50/50 to be honest. Any other opinions/predictions?

I reckon were out of the pattern within a week.

    Estimating 15% move.

Up or down? Anyone's guess but a lot of yap about it going down with Baakt coinciding, but my guess is up.

Putting in one last big purchase tomorrow then I'll sit it out for a week or two and see what happens.

    Exciting times ahead regardless !

Lads at work pooled together to pay some lad online to tell them what gonna happen. I don't know who he is or whatever. But, his text came in today and it's going down to 6 grand apparently.

As much as I don't believe this at all there's a fair chance it could get close to that, and if it does I'll be picking up a full coin at least.

$20,000 within 12 months, more than likely within 8.

Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, launched its bitcoin futures contracts late Sunday, in a move aimed at enticing investors who have hesitated about trading the cryptocurrency.

The first trade in the new contracts was executed on ICE’s futures exchange at 8:02 p.m. ET at a price of $10,115, Bakkt, the firm behind the contracts, said in a Twitter post. Bakkt is an ICE-backed venture which aims to make trading and paying with cryptocurrencies viable for retail and institutional investors alike.
    ...
Cryptocurrency fans will hope ICE’s bitcoin futures, which are federally regulated, can provide some much-needed legitimacy to an asset class that has been mired in controversy following illicit activity in the still nascent industry.

I would have thought that to be a positive development, but the market doesn't seem to think so.

Volumes on Bakkt have been fairly low (only a few dozen BTC until now), which I guess is a disappointment to some.

Hasn't even been going for a single day and you are seemingly already crying failure. The downbeat thread for depressed people is that way -->

Read my post again :-) I’m not crying at all, nor worried about Bakkt. Just providing a tentative explanation for your assertion that markets don’t seem to like it: some people are likely disappointed with early volumes.

It's good news - physically settled futures are far better than the CME version for Bitcoin as they have to go out and buy actual bitcoin to settle the trades.

People get over exuberant and expect things to happen in an instant. Things are moving along quite nicely....but step by step. Over the next six months, Bakkt volumes will go up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,905 ✭✭✭✭Bob24

Sure, this is a new thing and only time will tell how successful it is.

Many investors and fund managers are probably still getting their way around what it is and what it can do for them. But the fact that it is available and managed by a regulated institution they trust mean they will look into it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,501 ✭✭✭q85dw7osi4lebg

Possibly already priced in, also very little uptake of contracts for opening day, think only around 18 BTC total at lunch time today ! A nice gateway for institutions all the same.

Yes exactly this. The fact that it is physically settled is a big thing as what’s being traded is the real thing rather than an financial ersatz. But it also means it is more intimidating for investors who are new to it, and they need some time to test the water - hence a slow start.

Never looked into these. I have no idea but I would be surprised if the final price didn’t come close to open market values. It would make no sense to pay more, and as long as the number of buyers is sufficient, the price should come close to actual value as anything below it should be seen as a quick and easy money opportunity (assuming actual delivery doesn’t take ages, in which case there would be a risk due to price volatility)

    Am I missing something?

Why the hell is this sold at auction. That's a gross waste of tax payers money

15% auctioneers fees + VAT on top of that

Just sell the damn coins on a big exchange and get 100% of the value for it. They wouldn't bring a confiscated pile of €50 notes to auction either though, would they?

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro!

I can’t see how it is a financially efficient way to deal with it either. I suspect the explanation is more related to administrative or judicial constraints and processes.

    Time to buy

    Time to buy

I could be wrong, but now that a clear downtrend has been initiated I see it going even lower. Still think the way is up in the mid/long term though so yes probably some going buying opportunities in the short term.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,501 ✭✭✭q85dw7osi4lebg

In at 8812, order in for 8500 too. Finally some volatility !

lol, no one has a ****ing clue what is happening next, let alone put a number on it. But it's quite likely things could go down. Sentiment is bad at the moment.
