One of the more forgettable houses and episodes

The house maybe but not the couple . They were lovely and a breath of fresh air

Would they not put a downstairs bedroom in given their age too

She went to school with me and I’m 54 so look, neither of us need a stair lift yet....

I would have liked to see how the new heating worked, heat pump yoke etc.

Last week was all about the bloody garden, this week more about the couple and the wedding, very little info about the actual houses themselves, I get the impression that the end product tonight was as much of a surprise to Joe and Mary as it was to us.

What happened to the 156k budget, where did the 215k budget come from???

Other than that, that was probably my fave episode. I loved Joe

Very annoying that he said 40 odd thousand could be recouped if they got to an A3 rating.
Then they never mentioned if they got it.

215k - 40k= 175k which would have been close to max original budget plus 10% which is fairly normal for overruns/customer add ons really.

I'd say Cool Bawn Quay Nenagh.

It's actually Ashley Park, just outside Nenagh

Edited to say i replied before reading the whole thread...didn't reslise others had already pointed this out.

    Fab location!

Get used to it , that's the new formula.

It's a shame if so, they always got the balance perfect between the house, the faux drama, and the owners.

Would love to know how they managed and A2. With what was built .

people got tired of the false drama , always the same ,
budget , unforeseen problems, personality clashes, she wants/he doesn't .
It got to the stage where you knew what was coming up next.

Wall, floor and attic insulation, air tightness, heat recovery, heat pump and new windows. There was no mention of solar panels but that's not to say it wasn't installed.

One of the better episodes in my opinion. A lovely couple + just goes to show you don't need loads of drama to make a good episode.

She is the spitting image of Mary Kennedy from rte. The open planning living was perfect for them as in old house they never used the sitting room. I liked inside the house but not outside.White/Black/Brick + Wood Slates in window. Too fussy.

Of course they should upgrade the heating. It's not just about cost but comfort of a warm house especially in years to come.

Could they have shoehorned ANY more branding into the show if they tried?

Way overkill, that is pissing me off now and I'm not at the end of the programme yet.

I’ll be seeing sola in my sleep.

Jesus, I've just got to the reveal

A house less like Joe I cannot imagine. He must really, REALLY love Mary to have agreed to it all!

But it's fabulous (well, so far anyway). Or in Mary's words, fabbilus.

The colours in the living area are absolutely gorgeous. Really natural, organic

Seriously, pull out that 6ft sq window in the bedroom? Put in a glass door and balcony on the flat roof. Wasted opportunity

What a refreshing couple and fair play to Joe.

I'd say he worked out a deal or two with Sola while he was at it. I'm pretty sure that was their storeroom where they got the fake fire from. They've also got the house as the main image on their website. There's not a chance that Joe didn't do a wink wink deal... may explain the lack of focus on budget at the end.

215k seems very pricey for the end product. It was nice but certainly not stunning and didn't look like a complicated one.

Love their bedroom and the view , agree that the layout of his kitchens/open plan spaces , all begin to look the same after a while .
I think that's because they're shown in showhouse condition, with not a single personal effect in place. Come back in three months' time, and it'll look like someones actual personal living space.

Going by the voicover after the credits, we're back to the usual false drama next week!

After over 10 years it's well past time to replace Bannon. There's any amount of good architects .... time for a personality change. Same stuff all the time, good design, over budget ....etc. Why can't RTE innovate and change things up. Bannon is good but why not give a young talented architect a chance....it may even save RTE some cash. Bannon loves the limelight and attention.

I'd much prefer if RTE get rid of the likes of Turbridy first.

I'm sure there's loads of brilliant architects out there but how many have the personality for telly? I get dermot is not everyone's cup of tea but it's interesting to see his arguments and back and forth with the owners of the houses and his stubbornness in his opinions, it's a big part of the show.

I've been a big fan of the show over the years, i just think it's getting stale and predictable. A new architect would freshen things up.

Someone suggested, and I'm inclined to agree, that Joe did some sort of under-the-counter sponsorship deal with them, that probably paid for 75% of the build.

Joe sold the advertising rights for more than the cost of the house.

And probably lose half the audience in the process.

Bannon, as annoying as he is (and he is) is the main draw of the show.

Curiosity got the best of me. Paul "the builder" is the owner of Sola. And it was the Sola showroom where they picked up the fire thingy.
