    Al would have suspended him!!!

I take mike mayock will be resigning soon then ? A player treatens to punch you and that player is now playing and not being suspended. John gruden will come to regret this move.

That would be deemed terrible parenting to a child, forget dealing with an employee. If they wanted to start giving him fines, they had to have the conviction to follow the disciplinary process through for all activities. You can't 'set a tone' for minor things and then let the same person away with much worse.

Presume it was that apology backed with an ultimatum from his agent, saying that if they suspended him for the first game and it voided his guarantees, then he wasn't playing for them again.

If he plays AB holds all the cards again.

As a raiders fan this is all just utterly depressing.

They should have got rid. Taken the hit on losing a 3rd and 5th and moved on. If that was possible as reported of course.

The worst thing about this is that Mayock and Gruden are appearing just as unprofessional as AB now. They harped on all through draft season about wanted ‘high character guys’. They first back that up by signing AB, Burfict and Incognito. Now this is how they decide to handle this situation.

They say they have a plan. They have no idea.

On the brightside. Only another 8 1/2 years of this left

You're assuming mayock had any choice given that as you say at the end that only 8 1/2 years left of gruden so gruden made this decision.

True. In that case he is in a serious bind. If he walks away(for which I would commend him) then he’s just back working with the network. If he stays he’s a puppet. And he’ll sure as sh1t be taking the rap for it if the 3 first rounders don’t pan out

Pro Steelers look on things granted. He’s ruining a great career for himself at present which is a big shame.

Lads, just to be serious over this Antonio brown mess. We are all fans of different teams not the raiders on this forum. The question is would your team allow a player regardless of who they are, to allegedly threaten the GM of your team and face no problems ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,946 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

I didn't think any team would allow it. Not even those you'd associate with crazy decisions and lack of discipline.

It sets such a bad precedent. I wouldn't be surprised if news comes out over the weekend that Mayock has stepped down.

Why would Mayock step down? Surely as the general manager the decision on whether to keep Brown, punish Brown, or let him off, ultimately resides with him? Why would he step down over a decision that's his to make? Or am I missing something here?

I'm going with the theory that it wasn't solely his decision. Nothing to base it off other than Mayock doesn't seem to suffer fools lightly.

Who knows what is happening behind the scenes but I think that Gruden is calling all the shots there. He has a ten year contract!! I think Mayock, while he is the GM is more in an admin / advisory role. Also remember AB is their marquee signing and cutting him would be a huge embarrassment to both Mayock and Gruden.

I think the real fun will start when AB realises he is on a bad team that won’t be within an asses roar of the playoffs and won’t be on primetime every other week. Once football starts he won’t be the headline any more and if things aren’t going well on the field who knows what will happen. I don’t think he will be a Raider in Vegas and will any other team touch him?

I think some people believe that it might have been Gruden's decision not to suspend him as he is the one with the huge contract and keeping AB on the team and eligible to play is in his best interests given he runs the offense.

Well because Gruden has a ten year contract and Reggie Mckenzie was technically the GM of the Raiders and we know how that worked out. He could step down because a player publically threatened him and that player has been a pain in the hole since he arrived in Oakland for stupid ****ing reasons. I'm saying Mayock didn't make the decision or had little input.

Did he? Don't think that can be applied to the Instagram post and whatever happened within the Raiders is hardly public.

Might not have been public ie. in front of fans/media, but it did happen on the training fields in front of teammates and he had to be restrained according to reports.

It was also reported that AB started it, due to the fine he received from Mayock I'm guessing. A fine that was 100% deserved.

I think it’s safe to assume there was an incident given all that came out and the fact that Gruden had to clarify that he wouldn’t be suspended

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

Thanks for the clarification lads! Any organisation where the chain of command is as hazy and contradictory as that is banjacksed anyway, let alone one where a goofy clown like gruden is in charge. It's a shame,a couple of years ago they looked like a team going places, but they self destructed so massively since.

I have to believe that Mayock accepted the apology in a one time fashion.
I cannot believe that Gruden would go over his head like a lot seem to think is the case.

Ah here. So Adam schefter tweeted out Antonio browns last post on YouTube and it's a recording of a phone call between him and John Gruden. What's wrong with brown ffs ? The NFL need to step in and suspend him because if nearly any other player did this they'd be suspended by the team. Did he learn anything from Pittsburgh and the Facebook live carry on ?

Just watched it. Mother of god!! I will say the video is nicely put together.

Gruden sounds exasperated, ‘just stop all this s**t and play football’.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,946 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Wow, Gruden is absolutely pandering to Brown on that call.

"You're the most misunderstood person I've ever met in my life..."

    Give me a break.

That's psychology, you have to get the guy to trust you.
Obviously the best result for the Raiders is him mending his ways and playing his best football.

That is not good psychology I don’t think. Getting AB to be responsible for his actions is the only way I see forward. Whether that means him leaving then so be it.

Let’s say AB just gets his head down and plays football for the next few weeks. Everyone will just be waiting for the next episode.

In q lot of instances when a guy is doing stuff like this he doesn't trust anybody. The first step is to get him to trust somebody. Once you have his trust you can then work on getting him to take responsibility.
Like it's very clear he is not in a great place mentally and he needs help. He mightn't be ready to accept that yet. It's about getting him to that place where he will accept that he needs help.

Yeah I agree it’s about getting him to accept help.

But Gruden and Mayock would have met with him numerous times before signing him I imagine. And they knew his history with the Steelers like everyone else. To pander to him now only enables this kind of behaviour and more importantly it is to the detriment of the team environment

Well after the latest incident I don't see any way that he plays Monday night and that means his money remains unguaranteed.
Gruden and Mayock will have to play good cop, bad cop. One stops him playing and the other works on getting his trust.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,108 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Mayock is a lame duck GM if Brown escapes a suspension

Threaten a GM - sure no bother as long as you can play on Monday

This will surely improve his behaviour from now on lol
