Identifying a court date

Hi all,

I was shafted in a business transaction a few years ago by some people who the Gardai recently initiated a criminal investigation against for something unrelated to but consistent with my experience with them.

I'd love to be in the public gallery when the (hopefully inevitable) court case comes around.

My question here is how can I find out when and where the city case will be other than monitoring weekly the various listings of cases due up before the criminal courts?

Gardai recently initiated a criminal investigation - does not mean the DPP have indicated a case can go to the courts, if they are charged and brought before the court, you will be able to get the next date by being at that hearing, if this hearing is in the media it’s likely that the next appearance will be mentioned in the court copy.

Be prepared for a number of adjournments, for preparation of reports, book of evidence, etc etc (quickest I have seen a case go through the district court has been 3 days from arrest on Saturday to guilty plea on appearance on Monday and sentence the Tuesday, most take close to 12months, some longer.)

With the initiation of GDPR, gangland feuds etc it’s unlikely courts services or gardai will be willing to give this information to anyone not directly involved.

Confused ref GDPR though, I thought it was important that justice was seen to be done in a public manner hence public galleries.

gdpr is done in such a way that if you were due in court yourself and asked the gardai when they couldn't tell you unless you asked for it in writing.

Lateral thought.

If the factual circumstances of the OP's dealings with the current suspects are closely identical to those the subject matter of the present garda enquiries that might be of relevance to the investigation if it could yield useable similar fact evidence.

IMHO OP should contact the investigating gardai with details of his dealings with the dodgy ones in case his evidence might be relevant. If it is, OP would certainly know the court date as he might be a prosecution witness.

Not a bad suggestion.

Their behaviour towards me was entirely a civil matter but I saw character traits which are consistent with the alleged criminal activity that's been reported.

Not sure I want to stick my oar in again but I'll think about it.
