near enough that way if markets keep trending downwards

Planet x also increased prices by £100 on all bikes maybe 10 wks back due to currency concerns, so no real net saving versus what you would have got using revolut.

That said they have changed their courier to dpd last week so €9.99 package and €24.99 for a bike compared to what was £17.99 and £34.99. this alone will surely drive sales.

Rapha sale started today - got a winter jacket for 60€ and a rain jacket for 72€. Some great prices on their base layers too - the merino ones are among the best you will find but a bit pricy if you pay full whack. Was looking at a few things that are already gone so if you are a common size id buy now, they often cut prices again towards the end of the sale.

I have a cheaper pair of Northwave shoes in 43 and actually find them a relatively large fit. I wear 42 in normal leather shoes, have a 43 in both Shimano and B'Twin which are on the tight side, and a Lake 43 which is a perfect fit - if that helps

Arrived today. I'm 43 in normal shoes and generally go size 44 in road shoes. Ordered 44 and the fit seems perfect though have yet to try them on the bike. Checked planet x again and they still have them at 100 stg across random sizes and colors

Depends on the collection but I'd say more often than not Castelli Large is much closer to Rapha Medium

The Planet X store in Athlone is closing down and having a big closing down sale. They are getting rid of everything. Was there last weekend and got bib shorts for €20. Well worth checking out.

They've posted on fb (under Planet-Bike-Ireland) saying they're having one final blowout this Saturday from 10-5.

I doubt it tbh, the website is still showing as if they were trading normally. Might be worth pinging them on fb to see if they'll reply.

Just random photos, I think he is just opening the doors on the two days a week as he is busy the rest of the time, I think.

Lidl's got their cycling stuff back in, the long sleeve jersey is surprisingly nice, as are the winter gloves.

Would seem to be a very good deal on a smart trainer?

    https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/tacx-vortex-smart-trainer/rp-prod125671

Code EXTRA10 brings it to £161

Anyone got any opinion on this - I'm thinking of getting a trainer, for occasional use. Wonder if this would do the trick.

I have one for the past couple of years. Does the business with Zwift and estimates power if you don't have a meter. Big and clunky but I can't fault it really

Quick question on this. What exactly is the mains needed for ? In other words if you use it outdoors away from an electrical source what functionality are you missing ? Specifically will it still transmit power data via ANT+ ?

CycleOps H2 smart trainer on ProbikeKit for £625 at the moment. If you've bought stuff from them before, there's a good chance you'll have a "we miss you" email lurking someplace that'll give probably another £25 off. https://www.probikekit.co.uk/turbo-trainers-bicycle-rollers/cycleops-h2-direct-drive-smart-trainer/11847648.html

I went back and had a look and it was still showing £625 for me, then checked from the laptop and it did indeed show £970. I just tried changing currency and shipping destination to £/UK respectively and that brought it back down. They accepted my order fine at that price with an Irish shipping address earlier. Bit of a PITA and I assume a bug on their part given they've a banner at the top of their home page with the lower price

Gah, they're playing silly buggers. Yes, they carried the £599 price through the order, then upped it to £944 when I submitted  AIB got suspicious and blocked the transaction thankfully otherwise I'd have been in for a shock. Got on to customer service and they tried to claim it was VAT and shipping differences between UK and Ireland. I accepted the VAT difference accounting for £20 Max, but argued should there really be a £300+ discrepancy between shipping to the N. Ireland vs the republic. We'll see.

Anyway, apologies for the not such a bargain alert

parcel motel or some such would charge you about 15-20 quid (at a guess) to have it shipped to the north

Yeah, I did think about that but I just want to be a prick about it and try to hold them to the "Price Promise" they've still got splashed over their home page

Mods: apologies if I'm descending into discussion - I'll stop here
