A while back I was considering jumping across to Dunmore East while in Ballyhack/Dunbrody area of Wexford next week ... until I took a listen to the bands at the festival.

What ever else they are, they are not bluegrass. There is one typical one man singer songwriter outfit. More Gavin James than Bill Monroe. Another band is more Neil Young than bluegrass. More then are just like pub bands.

This is NOT bluegrass and why can't festivals give us the type of music they are marketing themselves as? A more HONEST description for this Dunmore East festival would be the 2019 Dunmore East Music Festival.

If a festival features so-called original music, Neil Young or modern country music arrangements of Ronan Keating songs, then sell it to that audience and NOT bluegrass! There was a time this Dunmore festival WAS a bluegrass festival but not now. Name change in order?

It will be flogged enough after this warning thread. I do not think it fair in the least when a festival is advertised to be for a type of music it clearly is not. This is NOT the first time this happens but anyone travelling long distances to this from say Northern Ireland and wanting bluegrass will be very very disappointed.

Advice always is to check out the bands at festivals before you go to them. You cannot trust what festivals are marketed as these days. There is an amount of bland music of no particular genre seeping into ALL festivals be they bluegrass, jazz, or folk and while this is perfectly fine for the 'we will hear some gigs and have a few pints' type but not for fans of the music in question travelling 100s of miles and spending their hard earned cash on accommodation and meals. That is simply not good enough.

Anyone willing to travel 100s of miles and spend money at a festival they know none of the acts at is stupid enough to begin with.....

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I have to agree. If people don't check the acts at festivals before going, they are going to be VERY UPSET especially these days. Honesty in promoting events is gone out the window these days. The only thing you can be sure about is the Guinness! And you can have that in the comfort of your own home accompanied by the music you want.

This seems to be a much better festival and has a proper website about it too. The Dunmore one smacks of no effort.
