The Quest is the standalone, right? Is it powerful enough to play some of the more challenging games, or is it more of a phone type VR system?

    It's powerful enough to play:

    - Robo Recall
    - Superhot
    - Beat Saber
    - Apex Construct (yay, can't wait to replay this in wireless comfort)

    plus loads of others...

So take from that what you will.

It will have the Go's lenses (so clearer than the Rift / PSVR), but the level of detail won't quite be up to Rift levels.

Saying that though, PSVR isn't up to Rift levels and immersion is fantastic on that. VR is less about tiny graphical details and more about the immersion, and once you are wireless the immersion is outstanding.

I have a Go, and even though that is only 3DoF, I swear I have never **** my pants as hard as I have playing Dreadhalls wirelessly on the Go. Res Evil 7 on PSVR was playschool in comparison.

    feels like its allllllmost there.
Quest looks like an amazing achievement, I'm so on the fence with this.
Buying 2 and playing multiplayer games, has me hugely excited.

I reckon go for it. You'll be on the fence waiting for the next iteration otherwise, and the next, and so on.

If immersive, tetherless, play-anywhere, portable, always-on, cultivated-library VR is what you're looking for, this is it.

Additionally, being a console it gets all the benefits that come with that in terms of guarantees the games you play on it will work as designed and not require a more powerful graphics card.

Actually maybe hold off till I get mine. I see I can generate 10% off referrals for Oculus Go purchases so it's possible I'll be able to do the same for Quest.

    Save you 10% and I get €20 for the trouble...everyone wins :)

Yeah. I’m definitely holding off. Exams in May, finishing a contract and then spending some time traveling, so will be July at the earliest before I decide.

I’m eagerly awaiting your review but I think I can guess already that it will be fairly positive :D

Over a grand for the bundle of Valve's new VR offering is ridiculous, those controllers are over a hundred a piece! And I thought we were getting gouged on PSMove controllers!

I really hope other headsets are compatible with any software they are thinking of releasing in the near future...
300 quid for a pair of them (plus whatever valve charges for shipping)

If I have buyers remorse I'll be honest about it :)

The overall game don't seem overly polished and seeing that vid would not inspire me to buy it.

It's little bit janky to set up as its a WIP , but the X Wing Alliance VR mod is working fairly well now.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/clqkuk/xwing_alliance_vr_this_guy_is_working_on_a_mod/
The files below are the VR mod and a link to the XwA fan upgrade (which is an all in one installer to replace the ship models with higher res ones and bugfix for modern machines)

The game is usually under a tenner on Steam or GOG , but if you have a current humble bundle sub you can get the game free from the Humble Bundle trove ...which >should< work (I havent tested it).

Surely they have a Star Wars flight game in the works. That Battlefront X-Wing demo is still one of the best VR experiences you can have

nope (unless its completely under everyones radar)
you'd think that they would and Its literally crazy but no , and that Battlefront mission is PSVR only.
Currently the only way to play something like it is running the Dolphin emulator in VR mode on PC and getting a copy of the Rogue Squadron (spit!) game on GC.
OR else running the X Wing Alliance mod.

Holy crap.. Dirt Rally 2 looks amazebollix

Have the first Dirt Rally but feel I really need to pickup a wheel and pedals to really enjoy it..which may be overkill for just the one game..

it really is worth it, such a world of difference.

I also received my Playseat Challenge so can't wait to set it up this weekend

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,587 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Just tried the Playseat Challenge there with DriveclubVR on the PSVR and my Logitech G29.

    This!

    This is it!!!

    Immersion now complete!

I stuck the fan on for extra effect, but holy Jesus this is the single most immersed I've ever been in VR.

My seat and steering wheel and even hand position are 1:1 with what I see on screen.

The best part was in the instant replay where you sit in the passenger seat and look over at the driver (me!). It actually replayed all the headturns I made in game.

    I think I've soiled myself.
