BMW UK Warranty in Ireland

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I bought a 10 month old BMW 330E MSport from the UK last summer which is a 172 plate. I imported it here and no issues since. However I do want to get the insured warranty before the manufacturers warranty is up. According to BMW UK each new car comes with 36 months warranty but:
The third year of the BMW Retailer Warranty is only valid provided the vehicle is registered in the United Kingdom. However, if you travel abroad and a warranty repair is required, this must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Centre or BMW Service Authorised Workshop. Please retain all invoices and any replaced parts (where possible). On your return to the United Kingdom contact your local Authorised BMW Centre or BMW Service Authorised Workshop who will process a warranty claim on your behalf.

Since the car is no longer registered in the UK am I only covered here for 24 months?

That is nearly up and I want to be sure because I won't be able to get the insured warranty if the main warranty lapses.

Yes only 24 months, 3rd year is a dealer warranty specific to the country and Irish dealers have no ability to produce the warranty claim. Same with other German Brands.

Odd. I gave BMW directly a call there and they said yes, the car is covered under manufacturers warranty for 3 years, and what I was seeing is the retailer warranty. They gave me a date of October 2020 that it expires.

    I'm still confused!

Is that affiliated with BMW? Site looks a bit hokey

Yes, it is the site of the insurance/ broker company used by BMW dealers for extended warranty.

I have a 171 BMW, originally a UK import the I purchased from an Irish BMW dealer when it was 10 months old. This year I had the car recalled under warranty to replace the egr valve free of cost with a courtesy car provided for three weeks by BMW Ireland. The car was into its third year of warranty.

The Irish BMW dealer that sold the used car would provide an extended warranty when the manufacturers warranty expires.

If you call BMW Ireland, the original UK 3 year warranty will be honoured. Had a similar situation myself last year on a then almost 2 year old car I had imported. They even followed up the call with it in writing from my own records in case a dealership took issue. I've since had the car in for it's end of warranty check without issue or charge.

A lot of imports will not register on https://www.bmw-warranty.ie/Start - you got to call them for the quote, in which they'll follow up with a written quote via email with a couple of renewal options for you and your specific car.
