    Hi, what sort of vehicle I should get for budget of 3k, I will be using it for daily commute 175km 4 days a week. Please do keep in mind that i have just bought a house and will be starting a mortgage and 3k is only my budget if I buy it cash. But do you think I should get a bit newer car and finance it? If i did finance a car I should be aiming around 200euro plus per month.

    *economical, reliable.
    *diesel
    *automatic
    * big engine

    Not sure about reliability but it has everything else your looking for. I'm sure you could knock the 250 off.

    Also I don't think you'll find too many autos at that price.

    1400euro for the road tax, you got to be kidding.

    But you said you wanted a "big engine". What is your definition of a big engine? The only big engines for 3k will have high road tax otherwise they wouldn't be selling for 3k or less.

    1.6L up to 2L fecking road tax is worth more than the fecking car

    A Prius would be the most reliable bet , and don’t be afraid of high mileage ones.

    A Prius for 175km a day? What an awful thought that is.

    Plenty of diesel Saab 9-3’s out there for that money. Autos as well. Very comfortable seats in them ideal for long commutes.

    I find the seats in Mk2 Prius quite small and very unsupportive.
    The car would be very capable of the mileage but I wouldn’t fancy being the driver.
    Now that said a load of them are taxis so maybe it’s just me.

    It's not just you !

    Short journeys are fine in a Prius. 175k per day sounds like something IS would do to make prisoners talk..

    Mk 2 Prius Is fine for 175 km per day , especially with cruise control. The low noise and lack of diesel thrumming helps.
