Work prospects with Level 5 certificate in IT

Would it be possible to get employment with a level 5 software dev/web design/IT course? Or are these courses like an introduction to the IT sector then study towards getting a degree and then employment? Thanks.

More then likely no.

There is a few different options you can look at.

Going all out and getting a lv8 in a it area that you like?. What areas of it are of interest to you?.

Look at doing the industry standard certs in the areas of it you like this can help in getting a entry lv role in it.

Being honest in the company I work for now our interns are all working towards there lv 8

Yes, you can get employment with it.

But you will be cooking burgers, sweeping floors and serving customers.

Probably not exactly what your looking for but its a lvl 6 2 year course. I think it provides a lot of network engineers for Cisco and Opennet.

If you have a genuine interest in software development or networking or whatever, have a bunch of interesting personal projects you've done, and have a passion for the topic, you can get a job.

You have to remember that Level 5 is equivalent to the Leaving Certificate.

So expect jobs that would be given to school leavers.

Your best bet would be to aim for at least a Level 6, and then when you get comfortable, start climbing the educational ladder towards a Level 8 (what most IT companies consider a minimum now). This can be done part-time, when you are in employment, or full time.
