Was in Abbey Street one last Thursday, had 5 pints of their delicious Titanic pale ale on cask, cant go wrong for €16.25 half the price of similar in Phouse, Black Sheep etc, as for atmosphere was with a bunch of mates, you make your own imo.

Not in a barn, it's the size of the places that I hate.

We sat in alcove around corner was maybe 6 other people, as I said well worth it to taste fantastic ales 50% cheaper than any where else.

There's an insufficient supply of alcoves for everyone.

I really welcome some price competition. The pub itself is bland as hell and attracting the wrong types hence the heavy security

Was ZERO trouble there, and mate was in this afternoon again and said as quiet as any other big pub. Not for everyone for sure but I value tasty cask ales at half price over alleged "atmosphere" any day!

Four door guards with bodycams means there should never be any trouble. But that also shouldn't be needed

They've been there since day 1, it's obviously preventive rather than responsive.....

Pubs always have to beef up security for the first few months they open. Its because customers who cause trouble effectively have a clean record until they are weeded out. Also new pub openings in an area naturally attract lads who are barred from every other pub in the same area, therefore more security is needed

Only the permanent beers are listed. The rotating cask beers aren't. The Silver Penny does seem to have a bigger range than the other Dublin branches, so far, anyway.

Guest ales listed on the app too now.

While it's a good place they still seem to run out of ice and last night they had to stop food service due to technical issue with order screen

Heard several staff were sacked too

Have'nt called in to it yet. Have passed it though, is there a beer garden or is the out door space at the front?

There's an outdoor area upstairs but I don't think it's a smoking area since there's nothing dividing it from the main area...

Yeah no smoking upstairs, it's just the space outside the front door

Went on Sunday. The place truly is soulless. I tried to figure out what it is. Or what it’s missing. Closest I can figure it’s the crap decor and furniture. It’s like from the 70s. But that aside it’s just kinda crap. Won’t be back.

It was an opinion. If I wanted to moan I’d say that app yoke they have is totally crap and doesn’t work.

Wrong, you need old farm equipment and old roadsigns to generate atmosphere in a pub. :pac:

TBH, the only thing stopping me going back is the area. I usually move around a few pubs and there's none in that area I'd be too interested in.

And Piper's Corner is even closer.

Yeah, an option. Actually, I used to like Clearys under the bridge at Amiens street too, but haven't been in 10 years. Moving further out of the city though.

And Urban Brewing is another great pub, if the complete opposite of the spectrum price and quality wise.

I don't get all this talk of lifeless and no atmosphere.
I found it grand... what do people expect. The app is great as well especially with it listing the rotation cask.

Go forth and drink cheap pints... and bring your mates.

I'd be willing to bet it's the lack of piped music that people find unsettling. With most pubs you know on a subconscious level that you're now in a pub because there's music playing, or sport on a TV. When that's missing, something is... wrong.

Another I haven't heard of I only drink craft beers, ipas and cask type beers so was no reason to be around Abbey Street until Spoons showed up.
