English test 189 visa Australia

Hi, I am submitting an EoI for a 189 visa for Australia. As I do not reach the pass mark based on work experience and degree, I need to do an English test to push me over the line.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Seems crazy I need to take a test in my own language. Do I really need to do a test or can I pay for spme certificate?

Irish passport is equivalent to competent English which is the minimum accepted, the next level is proficient then Superior English is a way to increase points.

Although you might think it’s crazy, due to fairness this rule applies to all applicants short on points of which many are not native English speakers. It’s not as easy as it sounds especially superior. According to some migration agent in Ireland 90% of Irish people fail to achieve enough points at least once
