    Two stories side by side in The Guardian today.

    Firstly, the US telling the UK they need to protect their own ships in the Gulf - so much for the "special relationship". here
    The UK must be responsible for the safety of its own ships in the Gulf, the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has said.

    His remarks reflect unresolved tensions between Britain and the US over Donald Trump’s plans for a US-led military convoy to protect international shipping operating off the Iranian coast.

    Next, "UK to seek European maritime mission to counter Iran's 'piracy'". here
    Britain will seek to put together a European-led maritime protection mission to ensure safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran seized a British-flagged vessel in what London said was an act of “state piracy”.

    It's almost as if cooperating with your European neighbours rather than relying on a fickle US of A could be a good thing.

    The Chinese and Indians should be a bit more engaged in this given most of the oil and liquid gas from the Gulf is for them these days, not the West.

    Only 20% of oil comes through the straight of Hormuz a lot of countries have diversified there supply chain .
    Oil prices are pretty stable 30 years there would be blind panic in the oil markets at the thought of a conflict in the region
