Another element on how good Shane’s round was yesterday.
I was saying yesterday that Shane is sometimes maybe too fast for his own good. Slowing down a bit might really help him, obviously not to Holmes level but a little bit might be no harm.
Koepka was clearly affected by the slow play today. So if you meet him in the matchplay you know how to beat him now.

As pointed out a few posts back, he will move up to number 17.

Is that his highest ever ranking though? Was he not in the top 15 at one stage?

Anyone up there - looked a nightmare weather wise.

Wonder will Shane hang around or head home.

He'll have to hang around for all the protocol stuff later. I would assume there's a dinner at the very least.

No, 17th was also his previous best ranking.

    Bottlers: Lowry, Fleetwood, Rose.
    Winners: Koepka, Spieth
    Unknown: Rahm

Ahem!! Previous reply on Friday as to who I thought would be in the winners enclosure. I despise the word bottler anyway.

JB Holmes might be one though. Think that’s his 3rd time shooting in the 80’s when in contention in a big tournament. Players he shot 84 I think.

    Nightmare.

Aye but I imagine he'll not have to put his hand in his pocket all night and will stumble into his leaba sometime tomorrow afternoon.

It's his equal highest ranking. He was previously 17th on 25/10/15 and 01/11/15.

Just as a matter of interest. Where would all these millionaire golfers have been staying over the week? There can't be many five-star hotels in Portrush and surely they wouldn't want to be sharing space with other golfers or be close to them?

Hand in his pocket? He’s a multimillionaire!!

He has to somehow make it to the first tee in Memphis on Thursday

Gotta just say that the course looked fantastic all weekend. Really impressive layout.

That was always going to happen. Having basically the fastest player on tour with the slowest was always going to end in years really.

At times, it did seem like the round might take years.

some of the aerial shots were brilliant. BBC did a doc on the work done one night last week. Some effort.

Another element on how good Shane’s round was yesterday.

I was listening to the open radio player this morning and one of the panel were saying that JB up'ed his speed yesterday in the realisation that Shane was on a good run and he thought it was very good sportsmanship on JB;s behalf.
didnt notice it my self but now that i think about it there wasn't a lot of talk of slow play from JB yesterday on Sky

Portrush, I would think, will have a glowing report from its staqing of the Open this year. Realistically when will it host the Championship again? After St Georges, St Andrews and Hoylake over the next 3 years and after the other courses on the rota have had their turn, I would guess 2028.

What was said between Koepka and Holmes?

Maybe so but the massive success of this tournament will surly open up Ireland even more than before to hosting another Open. Portmarnock anyone?

I didn't hear that anything happened between them.

Brooks apperently pointed at an imaginary watch to an official walking off one hole.

And he said after that, holmes isn't ready to take his shot when its his turn basically, he said he'd hit and holmes wouldn't even have his glove on, he said Holmes wasnt THAT slow to hit when he stood over the ball

Think it was more Koepka to the media, saying his routine ain't slow, but the fact that he doesn't look at his shot until the other person has played.

Re: Portrush staging again...I'd say 2027. I assume St Andrews will get it in 2025 again (don't they do it every 5 years there, but change for big occasions?).

Huge money in house rentals. I know of people in Troon who just rent out their own house when the Open comes to town, go on holiday for the week and still make a huge profit at the end of it. Some of these guys bring full entourages with them, manager/PR guy/chef/wife/kids the lot. Plus obviously the caddy. They need four/five bedroom houses or larger for the week.
