Well done Shane. Played the best golf all week over a difficult course and in tough conditions. The course was setup well and you wouldn’t have known there were two new holes.

    Well done Shane.
Balls of steel, forged on the parkland courses in the arse end of nowhere in offaly.
What a feeling it must be for an Irish man to lift the first open on Irish soil for 70 years.
    No surrender is right!!!!
Shane never gave up and fought off the brits, the yanks, the Africans and the Italian.

Olé olé olé olé, olé, oleeeeee!!!!
Time for a guinnes, see ye in the tullamore court. Place is rocking already. Anyone else heading here send me a PM

Cos it is the British open

Can't be, especially this year as it's not being played in Britain, it's The Open.

The Masters is not called the US Masters.

Golf tends not to be too interested in politics.

Well Offaly the hurlers and footballers may not be up to much but golf isn’t doing badly.

4 Irishmen winning and 5 wins in it the last 12 years it's becoming a bit of regular thing to be fair.

The open without a geographic link means nothing.

When it started 148 years ago, it was called "The Open." They never had a reason to change it, and it's still the name. I can see why people might occasionally call it British to distinguish it from the US, but its still called The Open

    A very worthy champion.

Outstanding. Well played and a great day for Ireland. Also well done to Portrush. The atmosphere was super and the crowd conducted themselves brilliantly, be they English or Irish or whatever.

He's only gone and done it. I did wonder after missing out in 16 and how things went in 17 that maybe it might never be.

Not gonna lie...teared up in the 18th.

    Shane Lowry...Open champion. Magic.

Typical that an Irishman wins a major and half the posts in here are about whether it's called the British Open or not

    Well done Shane ....
Your offalys 2nd most famous sports star of all time .
Fair play to McDowell and Harrington to be there as he walked off 18 to congratulate him .
Where was Mcilroy and Clarke ???
Wouldn't be at all surprised if Mcilroy was back in Florida .

Time has moved on.....its total arrogance to keep referring to it as ‘the open’
