Tim Cahill is another I'd like to have seen picked up.

I had a not so short list of 16+ players for each possible position depending on formation.

There was 18 players selected that I hadn't got on my shortlist. Of the 18 there was two that would have made the shortlist had I thought of them

    Barthez
    Rob Jones
    Hendry
    Southgate
    Sylvinho
    Florent Malouda
    Park Ji Sung/Rob Lee
    Ruud Gullit
    Darren Anderton
    Juninho
    Klinsman/Phillips

Not saying that these are round one picks or anything, but when you see Dele Ali and Vardy picked but not the likes of Peter Beardsley or Juninho it does raise an eyebrow.

My memory of barthez weren't great to be honest and I was a die hard United fan back then.

Was shocked to see Dele and M Alonso picked. Would have paired Beardsley with Cole to be honest. Guessing the age profile of posters plays a big part too

There are better striking options but always liked Mark Viduka.

Barthez made pfa toty at one stage He wasn't all bad but I don't think any keeper shouldn't of been picked instead of him.

Barthez was a very good keeper, I was going to pick him myself but you kind of put my mind at ease, people seem to remember the madness and badness with him, but he was absolutely excellent at times and people seem to push that out, would have been very hard to try and sway peoples opinions with him

The biggest shock for me was Robertson going in round 4.

That's the end of the picks. The No's have it for the sub round so we'll move on and get someone from outside the draft to put the teams into a random tie picker and start the match ups then.

The person who does the draw can use the following website http://anero.id/knockout-draw-generator/

You'll need to enter all the following poster's names and then hit generate

I gave a lot of thought to picking him over Ozil. Thought he'd go at some stage

Was very surprised nobody went for Yorke as well. He was in my original plan but I had to change as players were picked.

Gulit albeit an excellent player wasn't really someone that performed in the premier league at a top level for a long period.

He joined the PL and was immediately one of the best players in it, head and shoulders above his Chelsea teammates. He played in 3 seasons, 49 games, was in the PFA team of the year for 1995 I think, and finished 2nd only to Cantona for Player of the year.

Again, not saying he is a round one pick, but here is a world class player who undeniably made an impact in the PL over a few seasons, just as with Jurgen Klinsmann I think he would have been worthy of his spot.

In this modern age of 3 man midfields can you imagine Gullit sitting back and directing play, Nigel De Jong breaking legs and Juninho splitting defences? They would clean up against most teams.

Was between him and Alli for my last CM slot, don't really remember much of him at Chelsea so went for Alli. Probably showing my age but Alli was excellent his first 2 seasons imo

Even though he was the best left full the world last season I don't think he should have gone sooner

I agree with you but what I mean is if the conversation was going on lenght of time then he shouldn't be in it 49 games over 3 years isn't enough. He was fantastic one season that's it.

Cheers bucketybuck, so we will do it 2 matches a day for the first round. That should see us get through the first round in ~4 days all things going well.

I'll put up the first two match threads around midday tomorrow. Games 1 and 2 above.

You can go as in detail as you wish in your write ups incuding set up for your own side. Once the two posters have set out their teams they are allowed one post each to explain their gameplan against their opposition (exposing the other teams weakness or to draw attention to a player they think doesn't work in the other team etc).

After both teams are set up and opposition posts are made, then we open the poll and voting takes place for 24 hours (I might need a mod help to open a poll on a thread that has already been started I'm not sure?)

If one team does not set their side/tactics inside a 24hr period they will automatically forfeit the tie.

Each poster who votes must give some kind of reason in the thread as to why they voted one way or another to have their vote in the poll counted. This is in the interest of fairness and to discourage voting because you like/dislike a certain poster and to encourage voting for a set of players/ tactical approach instead.

Good luck to all, the picks where fun so I hope the knockout rounds can be just as good.

Drawing the guy with the first pick in the first round of games is never ideal but nonetheless I have faith in my rag tag bunch. :D

Draw should be done each round to reduce tactical voting.

These are always great fun to read. Thanks to all involved for their hard work.

The stand out players not picked to me would be Klinsmann, Juninho, Colin Hendry, Southgate and Gullit.

One player who I was very interested to see if he would be picked was Owen Hargreaves. I thought he was sublime for the one season he wasn't injured but it feels like cheating to include him. Though Ledley King and the likes did get picked as well.

It's interesting how the change in tactics affected the draft. As Slickric said, there was great value to be had in the forwards with the move to one man systems. I feel if you didn't get the absolute best like Aguero you may have been best off waiting till near the end to pick. Likewise the death of number tens meant there were some fantastic players ignored. On the flip side full back was a hard spot to fill. A lot of the older full backs would struggle to fly up and down the pitch all day long. And of course you don't want to spend high picks here, just enough to be good enough.

I would have put a greater premium on goalies than everyone else did it looks like. Well, for the very special ones I think they make a huge difference to the team and there's a big drop off after the first few. I'd have picked Schmeicel round one and the likes of Cech and Seaman soon after. If I didn't get one of those I would have waited till the end like most did, there were a lot of very good goalies over the years.

I thought the older centre backs didn't get the attention they deserved. I guess I'm just old :(. The old Arsenal back four could have gone earlier and Gareth Southgate missing out to lads who were never starters for England was weird.

As a few others have mentioned, at first glance Morzadec's team looks very strong. To me Suarez is in the same tier as Ronaldo and Henry was way above the rest. To see him go at 14 was bizarre.
