Replace lost 80s Toyota key

I seem to have lost my key for an old 80s Hilux. What is the best way to get a new key made up? Do I need to go somewhere with my Vin or is their a mobile service or something? Tnks.

Main dealer should be able to order one for you, not sure if a locksmith could obtain the key makeup just from the logbook information.

Locksmith will be able to make a key based on the lock.

Think it’s too old for key codes etc.

Could you try another old Toyota key? They used to wear in such a way that it didn’t matter what key was used. Think I remember someone using a spoon handle once.

Thanks guys. Yeah it's worn and I have other old Toyota keys but they don't work. Will try a locksmith as I am guessing it's too old for a dealer to do.

Yeah they have a tool that measures the lock pins to generate a code I think.

Not to derail the thread, but many older machines could be started with any old key

I had a bike lock key which would start all of our forklifts in work years ago.
And it also started my mates 1991 pajero.
