re Dark: Yep finished S2 last night, for me its a bit like the OA in that its a show I have really enjoyed myself but would be slow to recommend it to people as its quite an acquired taste. Really well made tho, score and the editing in particular are off the charts imo.

In terms of the confusion picking up the threads in S2, no recap so I didn't really have a bog what was going on again or who was who when etc (if I ever did!) til about 3 or 4 episodes in, probably why it felt a little bit uneven to start. Once it got going tho I was happy to let it wash over me and slowly come together

I was lucky in that I didn't need a season 1 recap, season 2 was ready to go when I finished season 1 a couple of nights ago. I can't imagine what it would be like waiting between seasons...guess I'll find out tonight or tomorrow when I finish season 2.

To be honest, I'm probably flying through this a bit too quickly. I understand everything that's going on, but feel I should be savouring this show and experience more, rather than just flying through it 3-4 episodes at a time.

I'm loving that season 2 features Sylvester Groth as
    the new detective in Winden
, he was really good in Inglourious Basterds as Joseph Goebbels.

    He's excellent in Deutschland '83 and '86.

    Looks like an interesting premise.

From IMDb with rating of 60%
This is a story about a common man who has extraordinary events in his mundane life. The film depicts the protagonist's turns of events in three eras, three seasons, three nights, in the same city, as told with reverse chronology.

    And from RT-
Three extraordinary nights in the life of an ordinary man- each involving a different woman, each changing his existence for good.
    Set in Taipei.

Yea, fairly decent RT score, 89%, which I'd probably regard more than IMDB.
Might be worth sticking on later...

IMBd is dung for reviews. I use that for quick info on cast info, but RT for their dual ratings of critic reviews and audience score.
Imdb individual audience reviews near the bottom of the pages can be helpful though.

Is RT as easily manipulated by review bombing as metacritic is?

I thought it was only the user scores that get bombed on both.

    He's excellent in Deutschland '83 and '86.

Thanks, I will definitely check this out.

    ...............

God damn it anyway...there are only 8 episodes in season 2 of 'Dark'. There I was watching episode 8 thinking 'Wow, this is fairly intense, the next two episodes have some big shoes to fill ' and then the dreaded Back to Browser prompt came up rather than Play Next Episode.

So, can anyone recommend either of the following for me please...

    1) A show on Netflix like Dark. 'Like' meaning similar story and themes, mystery/sci-fi set in the 'real world'. I have watched most of 'Black Mirror' btw.

    or

    2) Some more quality German content on Netflix. After getting over the subtitles barrier and binging Dark, I'm not even seeing subtitles now or finding them distracting, I'm like Neo seeing the Matrix :D

How to sell drugs is a German show and is great. I'd also recommend Altered Carbon. Not in German but excellent sci-fi

The Rain. 2 seasons. Sci-fi Danish thriller.

    Perfum. Excellently 'dark' G
( No pun intended) German drama about old friendships coming home to roost.

    I highly recommend both.

I downloaded Baywatch for a flight. My friends had said it was a hilarious but I was sceptical given the reviews. I turned it off after twenty minuteds, Jesus, it was awful. I dunno if I'll ever understand what's funny about someone getting their genitals trapped in something else. Would not recommend.

Instead a watched The Perfect Date which is a Netflix highschool romcom along the lines of To All The Boys I Loved Before. It's not nearly as good and it's very predictable but it was enjoyable enough and killed an hour and a half.

Ahh, you're right! A gross-out scene like that didn't quite fit in my head, but I wasn't thinking straight. That scene is just so funny.:D

4 seasons out of that premise is fairly extraordinary.

The second season of Rain was terrible. A pity because I enjoyed the first.
1st season wasn't bad- better than expected; the last episode was a let down, so when the second season picked up exactly at that point, i gave it a miss. Good to hear it was a wise choice.

The 12th Man is excellent I thought.

It shows the struggle of a Norwegian resistance fighter to flee occupied Norway after a sabotage mission against the Nazis goes wrong.
