Still not sure about the headlights.

Here's with the m performance bits...

Jesus it's come full circle, BMW are copying Hyundai. That looks like an i30N to my eyes.

There's far too much going on, they are trying to hard to out do the new AMG A class.

Yeah was thinking it is quite hyundai-ish

Looks better without the M performance bits stuck on.
The m sport plus pack gives nice 20” alloys and it’s more understated. Interior quality looks way better than before too.

Thanks for the info but can’t answer either of your questions or rather I don’t know the answer. It’s a 1.5tsi DSG Highline but I’m guessing the dealer is as clueless as everyone else

In simpler terms, is the delay so long that you won't get the car until January?

Very possible that it will be 2020 at this stage, we have discussed that if it goes into October we wouldn’t register until January.

The PCP thing is complicating things though as her current 162 Golf should go back to the dealer and the payments will stop in July. Now the dealer has said we can hang onto the car until the new one is ready but if that’s October the dealer could look for the car back.

Personally, I think that looks awful. As has been said above, I thought i30 when I saw it first, only it looks worse!

I think I spotted your car parked along the docks last Saturday. Really stood out, looks great :p

I was parked near the docks on Saturday so it was probably me. A seagull took a liking (or disliking?) to it and decided to drop a few bombs. The roof of the car looked like a painter's radio :pac:

The pricing is a bit mad alright. In 2003 I paid IR£21,000 for a GTI, in 2005 I paid €35,000 for a MKV with 18s. I don’t think an R32 in the V was €60,000 but I’m pretty sure it was around 50-55.

Yeah it was definitely in the 50k region. You could easily spec up a GTI north of 40k when I bought one in 2007.

I really did not like i30 when I sow it first and now, I really really want one. Hatch, not that sport coupe yolk.

As for BMW, I actually like it, I feel that I am too old for cars looking like this, but **** it, I still would.

Some more details on the mark 8 gti. Nothing majorly new to report.

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-volkswagen-golf-gti-2020-hot-hatch-seen-first-time.

Incidentally I saw the all new BMW m135i x drive is coming in at 50850 euro here with 305 bhp. It is a major step up in appearance from the old one and has the same interior as the new 3. I configured it on the UK website and it looks pretty good and a viable alternative to the R/gti.

Where did you see that the M135i is going to be that price? I thought it would be more in line with the A35 which is €59k. It is slightly cheaper than a S3 Sportback at that price though.

Today’s motors section of the Irish Independent has the prices. Article is online too.
I’m sure you still need to spec a few options like m sport plus pack etc. but the driving reviews of the same drivetrain in the x2 m35i have been very positive.

Price? Starts at €32,100 for entry level 118i and ranges to €50,830 for the M135i.

The article mentions an M135i XDrive, not sure if that is the 50K model or dearer again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The m135i is only available now as x drive and is the top model so don’t see any ambiguity in the article. It’s not up in the BMW website in Ireland but I’m sure a dealer would have the pricing if you want to confirm.

If those prices are accurate then the 118i is actually poor value given the power difference.

I'd suspect the M135i is ex VRT or something?!

Similar to the Golf, pretty much, except the BMW doesn't have the Golfs cheapest 1.0 115 bhp option.

    You'll pay the same 50K for a 4WD 300bhp model of either, and 30Kish for a 140-150 bhp 1.5 turbo model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,445 ✭✭✭Wailin

It's an improvement over the last model for sure. I can see why some compare it to the I30n, but it's clearly a BMW. That price of 50k for the M135i will be more like 60k once you add a few options like M sport plus etc.

The 1 Series isn't competing directly with a Golf though, it competes with the A3 and the M135i would compete with the S3. A S3 costs a good bit more than a Golf R.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I’ve no reason to doubt the price reported.
Maybe BMW got into a lower vrt band with it than the competition.
Still you will be mid to high fifties when you add a few options so no bargain really but competitive against the opposition.
I specced one up on the UK website as they get the same specs as us and looks like a reasonable basic spec but you will want a few upgrades.
It will be interesting if VW continues to jack up the price when mark 8 comes.

However in reality it is generally easier to get bigger discounts on the golf and the finance offers are traditionally more attractive against the likes of BMW or Mercedes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of the R go up in price once the Mk8 comes out. Even now, the Cupra is 45k which is madness. They used to be a bargain compared to the R even 18 months ago.

The new 1 series is FWD now, correct? I wonder how that will effect the driving experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭SaintsYB

It is indeed. I can't recall exactly what it is but it has some sort of diff (I think) on the front for dealing with understeer so that basically it will be the best handling hot hatch on the market. I saw it in a video by Remove Before Race.

Most models are but the m135i is 4 wheel drive as standard.

It's using a modified version of the MINI platform so fwd versions shouldn't be a disadvantage.

Folks, does anyone have a vw golf pricelist (Ireland pricelist) from 2016 or 2017 with the clubsport on it?
