    folks,

    Could someone just answer this?

Rather than setting the netgear router name and password the same as my VM hub can i indiviually just set all my Devices IE connecting my Wifi through the Netgear WIFI so I don't have to go about reconnecting all my devices and will this make my Devices connected through the NETGEAR Wifi Better...

Sorry I'm not sure I understand what you mean? I just set the netgear router name and password same as my VM router and it was fairly painless, no problem with any of my wireless devices

Not sure what you mean. You basically want Netgear WiFi -> VM Hub Modem -> Internet. Running WiFi on both will give you issues with some things.

If you change the Netgear SSID (router name) and password to exactly match what the VM Hub was, your devices will just connect to it instead. They don't care what the hardware is. Disable the VM Hub WiFi first though.

Two separate manufacturers and the same issue? I didn't think the power adapter that came with it could be the problem but I'll investigate thanks. Would you have any links to get me started?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lavolta/dp/B00DQYIGSA if I remember correctly :)

I have wifi in the attic and one downstairs on opposite sides of the house.

They are both set to the same ssid and password.

Wifi analyser shows they don't interfere with each other at that distance and they will change their channels automatically to find the clearest radio band.

With this configuration my phone just jumps between whichever wifi (radio signal) is closer.

I've only had this a week and already having trouble with it. WiFi is showing no Internet connection, wired devices working fine. Tried restarting the router but still the same. Any suggestions and what else I can try?

Update the router. Try a different channel.

Virgin media hub? Has the WiFi Internet worked at all? I think that happened to me when I changed it to bridge mode before. Think it was a factory reset of the virgin hub and redoing the steps to bridge it that fixed things.

Good point. Is the OP running their modem in bridge mode?

Yep running in bridge mode fine for a week and wired devices like TV are receiving Internet fine. Might just reset the netgear router completely or talk to amazon about sending it back

Under advanced setup and wireless settings ensure there is a tick next to ' Enable Wireless Router Radio'.

I vaguely remember having a similar problem before that was solved with factory resets and setting everything again. Bit of a pain but it was faster to setup the routers again than I was expecting. Worth a punt before sending it back I'd say

I've given up on this and it's on it's way back to amazon. Just too many issues and actually worse compared to the virgin media hub. Devices were randomly dropping off the wifi while others had connection no problem, sometimes internet over wifi wouldn't work while wired devices worked fine, coverage was about the same compared to virgin hub. The straw that broke the camels back was my NAS box disappearing from my home network, it's wired into the router using tplink home plugs and I never had any issues with this setup when I was using the virgin hub. It worked fine for a while with the nighthawk but then just disappeared, tried everything like change the plugs, wires, restarting NAS box and factory reset of router.

The nighthawk app is terrible, it never showed the device types for connected devices, would come up as unknown but if you went to router web page they appeared fine. So blocking access to certain devices from the app was impossible unless you knew the ip address, it seems to be a common issue and solution online was to factory reset the router but that didn't work for me. Also when the internet over wifi was down and I ran the speed test on the app it was always coming back with 150mbps+ speeds.

I'm going to try a mesh network setup like the linksys velop when I get my refund from amazon because ultimately I just want better coverage in the house as opposed to handling loads of wifi devices which I think the nighthawk is more suited to.

    Something about sandwiches

I'm only starting to configure this now. I have my netgear wired to my VM Hub and want to effectively retire my VM hub and just use it for gettin the signal into the house, and passing off all the work to the Netgear.

I set my VM hub to "Modem Mode" and had to use the reset button at the back coz it wasn't responding, and I couldn't get into the Web Interface.

I see comments saying that I should just try again now and it'll work. Others are saying I need to contact VM (open today?) and get switched to an IPv4 subnet.
Whats the current thinking? I'm on IPv6 but Modem Mode is still showing in the VM Hub.

Once done, I presume I can then go into the web UI of the Netgear and choose between "Router mode", "AP Mode", and "Bridge mode". Currently its in AP mode. Is it Bridge mode I need to select?

    Thanks.

Thanks. That was the missing link.

It was actually fairly straight forward. Just set ur Netgear to router mode first, then set the VM Hub to modem mode.

I did the VM Hub first, and then lost access to the Netgear so had to factory reset it. Then the setup wizard did the rest for me, but I would have saved a couple of minutes if I've set it to router mode first.

Not sure people are aware of this but a bonus of putting the VM hub in bridge mode, if you plug in a laptop to any of the switch ports you it will get a different WAN IP address https://www.whatsmyip.org/. This effectively gives 4 broadband connections, this is handy if your hosting your own Web Server, VPN server etc.

Completely exposed to the outside world... Not a best idea.
