Boxing event not giving the go ahead at Apple Market

    What is up with that? It was rejected by the Apple Market group. They didn't seem to give any reason. Such a shame.

    You could prob see it free or charge in that area every Friday/Saturday night ha

    Not sure why it didnt get the go ahead tbh possibly some of the clientele it would attract or the logistics

    Wasn't a few days ago Cllr John Hearne on WLR FM saying something in line of "surely the were armed forces called to this sorts of events in the past but the past shouldn't be held against our event"?

    Apparently it's very difficult to hold any type of professional boxing event in Ireland after what's occurred in recent years.

    We've had the Recency shooting, the shooting in Bray, and a range of other violent incidents involving Irish boxers and boxing events.

    This is a family day event on a Sunday afternoon for 2hrs to raise some money for the club,not a professional event,the council were on board its the traders in the apple market who are stopping it,and the simple reason why they dont want it is because its Ballybeg.

    Actually by all accounts (bar John Hearnes) the businesses made no objection at all (most didn't even know it was proposed). It was actually that old chestnut of Public Liability Insurance and the cost of putting it on. If the businesses had said no it could have been easily moved to JRS or the Plaza.

    The council were on board to add it to the summer in the city events that are happening,then the apple market trust or whatever its called put a stop to it,all costs to put it on and insurance are been covered by the club,Paul Simpson was on WLR last week and he said all this.
