Two-stroke oil....absolutely necessary?

Just wondering is is absolutely necessary to use two-stroke oil in the premix for a two-stroke engine or will any good quality oil suffice?

There would be a great chance of permanent damage.

The oils are used differently in the 4 vs 2 engine.

Of course its a serious question! Isn't lubrication the whole point of using oil? Do you reckon 4-stroke oil loses its lubricating qualities if used in a 2-stroke engine?

You DEF need 2 stroke oil in the mix, otherwise you will seize the piston in the barell of the engine.
2 Stroke oil Only.

TLDW; seems to run dirtier but that chap found no damage after running for an hour with 4-stroke oil.

It's probably ok in an emergency but I wouldn't advise it permanently, 4stroke is designed to be used long term so it's thicker viscosity would imo clog a 2stroke engine over time.
To answer another question it is perfectly ok to use a 2stroke mixed petrol in a 4stroke engine ( obviously with 4stroke oil in the oil tank).
