I'm not sure that you understand to be honest, your contract does not cover the software updates and an email is certainty not a contract  As I stated, based on your logic, if you get 1 update in the next 12 months your argument is invalidated. You will not get Android updates, you may get a patch or 2 over the next 90 days but that's not an Android update.
Your relaying what they told you? As I said earlier , what do you expect them to say? They are making assumptions with no facts to back them up.

Ok, so what do we do? Nothing??

My contract covers the supply of a phone that is fit for purpose and of merchantable quality under the sale of goods and supply of services act.

If that phone suddenly becomes no longer fit for purpose then I have the full backing of consumer law to break contract with Three.

What are you suggesting? That they give me a refund NOW for a situation that MAY or MAY NOT happen and certainly isnt happening for the next 3 months? Im already a year into contract. Its likely that by the time my contract is up the phone will still be working fine!

Im a bit lost at why you are so upset about this? Dont like your phone? Get a new one! Its a phone!! Its not a heart transplant valve thats failing!

It depends how long we all have our phones, I'm not letting it rest. Paid €779 for a phone that may not be what was advertised. As mine is only 3 weeks old I've been on to Comreg and solicitor.

I'm not saying that you should get a refund, you have your phone long enough so tough. Break your contract is fine for you as you obviously didn't pay full price for the phone.

I never said I didn't like the phone, I paid €779 only 3 weeks ago and now I won't get Android 10 etc, where my older OnePlus 6 will. Im not in contract with them.

I'd also say your contract only covers provision of services, not the phone.

Still waiting ComReg, solicitor said that they should be willing to replace/refund devices as gesture of good will as they will not meet the sales brief in 90 days.
Consumer rights are limited as there's currently nothing faulty with Huawei phones.
But we are still looking into it.

How so? I contacted amazon today for a laptop purchased at the end of February but no joy.

Went on live chat. Said I knew of two people (from boards but I didn't say that) who were given full refunds of devices purchased up to 7 months ago.

Tried once hours after Google announced their initial intention to suspend service in the future.

didn't work....but then I tried again the next day.. And it did work. (the 90 day reprieve had already been announced at this stage)

Fair play Amazon, but I've always felt Amazon actually provide good customer service. Three on the other hand

Ah I was wondering why you were so aggressive in tone about Three.

The problem is that we dont KNOW that they wont meet the sales brief in 90 days.

No one knows, so Im surprised your solicitor said that. Im also surprised that you bothered engaging a solicitor. Because so long as you have recorded all your contact with Three, if this DOES blow up there will be a huge number of people looking for resolution and Comreg will no doubt issue a directive.

But in fairness, its been signposted for ages that the yanks were going to make life very difficult for Huawei.

So the last few days have been interesting

Huawei added back to the Wifi, SD, Bluetooth and JEDEC associations

Mate 20 Pro also back on the Android Q beta list.

    Panic over?

Why anyone would want to return the best phone an the market at the moment eludes me, my P30 Pro is awesome, camera streets ahead of anything out there, what's to fear... maybe they should have purchased an IPhone first day.

Very tempted by the p30 but the potential lack of Google play store is a killer

The tweet says all apps will remain available so play store should remain.

The issue is if Huawei are looking to get future updates signed by Google and they're not allowed to do it, then all the Gapps won't work if you updated to an unsigned Android version.
Sounds like Android Q is sorted at least but maybe not R if the ban comes into effect.
I'm not sure if individual monthly security updates have to be signed by Google or not so that could be an issue.

The article says 'access a world of apps' but doesn't specify whether that's from the play store. The think it's still up in the air and they are covering themselves that way

Seems to confirm that's it's remaining in this article. Don't think security updates are going to be an issue either.

    https://www.t3.com/amp/news/huawei-p30-pro-mate-20-android-q-update

"In its statement, Huawei confirms that all of its existing portfolio will continue to receive security updates and will not lose access to the Google Play Store."

This does not and will not affect the Play Store. May affect future versions of Android but not the store.

I'm so confused over all this. I was considering holding out for the Mate P30 Pro in October but probably should avoid?
