Narrowed to sage and farmgate. Are they both as good as each other . What about price wise ?

I'd reckon that sage would be more top end, food wise, farm Gate isn't to be sneezed at either though (a good while since I've eaten there though),
Ó Donovans has a really good rep too, and as I said before ferrit and lee which is a wee gem..

Sage, Farm Gate and Donovans all good. Sage quite adventurous, Farm Gate excellent more traditional food and Donovans the most traditional of the 3. But they all do great food imo.

Went to Ichigo Ichie last night. Absolutely superb, the best high-end Japanese restaurant I’ve eaten in so far. Managed to get a few minutes to chat with Takashi. So delighted for his success, as I remember him telling me his ambitions a few years ago.

It is fabulous, so many subtle flavours and beautifully presented. Not for everyone, definitely not for the burnt steak brigade, but I loved it,can hardly wait for the next time.
However, the booking system is a disaster.

Great news for lovers of authentic Chinese food!!:D

Soba on Carey's lane have started a second menu - different to the general Asian Street Food Menu. Some really interesting stuff and they've had the cop on to write it in English, too.

Went last night with Mrs. Beer, we both had soup noodles. Mrs. B had beef tendon noodles which was really good (maybe not for everyone). Had similar in Singapore a few years ago - rich and unctuous. I had Szechuan spicy, sour soup with preserved cabbage and mung bean noodles. This was really delicious and proper spicy.

I was so pleased that the food was even better than I'd hoped. Main course noodle dishes are around €10 - brilliant value.

They plan to extend the menu over time and to maybe do some special event nights.

It's not a very nice space and the decor is pretty awful but the food is the best Chinese food I've had in Ireland.

Went to Koto and Bar Pigalle (for brunch) over the weekend.

It was my 3rd time in Koto and really tasty as usual - had the Khao Pad with chicken and prawns - delish.

Went to Bar Pigalle yesterday to try their new brunch menu. I had an omelette with potato, cheese and nduja - I thought nduja was something else....so it was quite spicy for me, so probably wouldn't have it again but it was tasty. My dining companion had the black pudding, purple poato hash, fried egg and nasturtium pesto - he said it was divine, he would have eaten another plate! We both had an aperol spritz which were lovely and refreshing!

I had never been in Bar Pigalle before and loved the decor and especailly the window in the corner looking out onto St Finbarrs Cathedral; pity about the weather, but it still looked lovely!

Definitely want to go back again soon.

Went to Ali's for brunch yesterday, had their hash with black pudding and bacon, 100% recommend it. It's a little cramped in there, but the food is amazing and the service is great.

Went to the Raven last week, heard their burgers were good recently. Not impressed, the food was just so bland. Not that it wasn't salted, just boring flavours. To their defense they were really busy, but I doubt I'll be back any time soon. Too many good places to chose between.

Have they that menu everywhere or just in town I wonder?

That’s disappointing to hear about the Raven, I was there a few months back for dinner and was very impressed, had the halloumi burger. Was gonna try it again soon for brunch...hope it’ll be better than what you had!

Went to bar pigalle, on barracks Street yesterday evening, really, really good..
We had 4 starters and a portion of chips between 2, came in at 45 euro including a pint and a glass of wine...
Fried courgette flowers stuffed with with ricotta and lemon.
    Monkfish tempura, with saffron Mayo
Smoked duck pancakes with pineapple kimchi
And mussels (slightly less done than I like but In a lovely cream sauce..)
    Service was very good too..
(I feel like I've been on a roll eating out lately..)

What did you think of duck pancakes, i thought they were average, but everything else was superb when I went - must go back soon.

Have to say I'm delighted hearing that Soba are extending the menu, myself and my partner very much enjoy the place.
Must take a trip in to the city to try the new menu.

I was a little disappointed with the duck pancakes, too. They cooked the smoked duck breast so it was like bacon and the pineapple kimchi was all pineapple and no kimchi.
They were still tasty but not as good as the menu reads.
Still, we had excellent food there.

Was at White Rabbit last night and ill be honest was disappointed, not at the food per say. But the fact they were running out of food

We were a large group and immediately they told us there was no brisket, they had only 4 sets of ribs left and 4 corn breads....
(We had booked as well a few days in advance) Just wondering if anyone else had similar experience there

I'm unsure if this is the right thread for it but Casanova on George's Quay was vandalised last night and are closed for a few days as a result. I'm absolutely disgusted. Hope they get back open soon, they do the best gelato around.

Not sure, just saw a pic of their counter all smashed up on Facebook. Can't understand why someone would do that. Pure scum.

Luigi Malones yesterday for early evening dinner, had garlic prawns and garlic mushrooms as starters, I had the ribs and wife had salmon, Irish coffees for dessert + a bottle of red wine. Everything was just right, L.M's do the simple things well, bill with a tip was €110...good value and very good service...I just wish they would offer "chips" instead of fries, actually I wish all restaurants would do "chips" when you are having that kind of a meal, you can't beat a proper thick chipped spud smothered in vinegar!!!!!!

    adore Luigi Malones.
their pizza is for me the absolute best.

alao the starter of mussels in a white wine sauce are perfect.

Went to Jacques at the weekend for the first time in years. Had the 28 day aged steak, it was cooked to perfection. The cheese boards with figs and bread was amazing . Often gets overlooked for some reason but is easily in the top 3 cork restaurants for me.

I love going there for lunch whenever I’m home. They do the basics like quiche, toasties and cake so well.

It wasn't vandalised, the fridge glass shattered. After hours, no break in. More likely a failure with the equipment which sent an electric surge through the glass.

Hopefully their insurance or the warranty on the equipment will cover a replacement, after a cleanup.
