Ehhh did I suggest he ‘make his kid watch this’?

    Ps. That’s not dublin pride.

Pps young ladies brave the town with little more than a waistband on to cover their privates. Students regularly run around in their boxers and traffic cones on their heads.
People are weird. And they’re entitled to be.

The fact that you googled that to make such an insipid post is telling.

Would love to know exactly what you googled.

My daughter is absolutely fine. She's doing her homework at the minute. Then we are going to watch a film. She knows about different sexualities and religions and is accepting of all and treats everyone the same. I'm very proud of her.

I haven't ranted about gay people. I have no issue with gay people.

Right beside her. Exactly where I want to be.

Don’t squeeze or limit her. Think of the soap in your hand in the bathtub.
Let her do her own thing. No blame at all protecting her. I’m the same.
But there’s a line there somewhere shouldn’t be crossed.

Challenge any of you to find a picture from any Dublin pride ever. That had anything like this one.

Go on. I know you love googling mad stuff you claim to be perverted but somehow know how to find :)

    I’ll wait.

Why do the LGBTQ need a parade every year. Straight people don’t and if they did there would be uproar

Haha! Laughed out loud well played.

It’s aaaalways the quiet ones. And priests and pastors and fragile insecure ‘straight white males’ somehow. (Who are sooooo easily offended and how dare you not tolerate their intolerance!)

What is it with people who really don’t like gay people and everything associated with it, but they feel the need to flood every single conversation where the things they ‘don’t hate, just don’t agree with’ come up?

It really is rather odd isn’t it? ;)

    I asked a simple question.

You can call me all the names you like, and try whatever personal attacks you like, such ad homien just demonstrates the weakness of your argument, and says more about you than it does about me.

We’re all having a parade for you tomorrow. We’re so proud of you.
Congratulations on your sterilisation and a warm thanks from us all for sparing us the stupidity of any offspring you were about to inflict upon us.
Take the flag of your choice and join us at 2pm at the zoo and we’ll do a lap in your honour and tip you back into the chimp pen where you no doubt belong :)

Simple answer is that the LGBT community are probably in pole position from a narrative perspective at the moment and have allot of support behind them. They no longer need to go for the tolerant approach/debate approach to bring people along with them.

Its easier to just label and belittle those that raise any questions.

Unfortunately it has a polarizing effect as we are seeing in the likes of the states and just ends up building more hate. It will be interesting to see how things go over the next few years and if that survey about Irish people being sick of PC culture was accurate or not.

Its going to be a wild ride when it comes to LGBT education in schools, trans rights as we move forward ect. We have already seen how that community acts to medical professionals.

Seems to be an obsession with the USA here! It's the evangelical Christians over there who are pushing anti-LGBT hate. Thankfully they are not as prominent here though they are trying a comeback, the Catholic ones that is.

What on earth does that last paragraph and especially the last line of your post even mean?

Yes. All insecure white men must be gay. We get it...

What is it with people who really don’t like gay people and everything associated with it, but they feel the need to flood every single conversation where the things they ‘don’t hate, just don’t agree with’ come up?

Because believe it or not, not everyone who has a problem with certain aspects of "cultural homosexuality" is anti gay.

I am certainly not opposed to homosexuality but the fact that I refuse to celebrate it makes me somewhat of a homophobe.

I think if "flooding a conversation" amounts to discussing it on a discussion board, then you will be ok.

If you would prefer not to have any criticism, perhaps go elsewhere.

Understandably enough as Ireland consumes allot of the American politics and adopts it for itself. I know we filter it down at times but some of it we try and just transplant straight in (when i say we i mean the collective we, everyone).

The last paragraph is about how we move forward as a society when we have all of these items coming down the track and we are at a stage where any nay-sayers is just a bigot and can be ignored. The last line means the vitriol at the medical professionals that took part in the trans documentary on RTE.

    What?

I think he is trying to say if you squeeze to hard the soap will fly out of your hand, where as if you have a gentle grip you can hold on to it much easier.

I agree some of it is annoying and irrelevant to our situation.

Naysayers usually judge their judgement on ignorance and scaremongering. Alot of the vitriol was aimed at the unqualified Lenihan.

On your previous mention of LGBT in schools, there is already LGBT awareness in Irish schools, no wild ride yet! Happened just this week https://gcn.ie/primary-school-pride-parade/ .

Oh right. So if I have a firm grip on reality, I will lose my mind whereas if I let all the madness enter reality, I will end up capitulating and agreeing that their reality is actuality.

    I see...

That is great news on the LGBT stuff in primary schools and even more so that it hasn't gone negative either way so far. Don't get me wrong for one second, i have three daughters one of which has autism, today's society as it stands is so non-inclusive its absolutely crazy.

I am just concerned that the polarization on both sides will lead us to a more unequal world. Discounting opinions we don't like and writing people off is the road to ruin.

Usually bring the kids in earlyish. It's a good day out, lots of colour and fun and it's nice to teach the kids exactly what it's about and the meaning behind the protest/celebration. Not sure if I'll make it this year, we could be away.

No but you know how it is, we all rebel against our parents. Especially if we are being forced to adopt their world view. Like the analogy with the soap if you squeeze to hard to try and hold on to it you will warp it.

So yes you can have your own opinions on things but if you dogmatically push them onto your kids you may end up having the opposite impact.

    Ooooooohhhhhhhhhh.....

    I get it. I genuinely didn't.

So by me teaching my daughter that people shouldn't be ashamed or proud of how they were born and they should be proud of the decisions they make and how they treat others...

That will make her be a supervillain?

I think you need to take a minute or two and step back because i don't think we are at odds like you think we are.

I agree with the approach you are taking with your daughter but i was just explaining what i thought the other poster meant. I also agree with their point because kids rebel if you push to hard that's the nature of the beast. It doesn't matter what your politics are if you don't listen to your children and force your opinion on them you may have the opposite effect than you planned.

I too asked a simple question. I wasn't talking about you. My own brother is gay.

No I will be avoiding everything related to pride. I treat gays like every other person I meet. I will not put gays on a pedestal and treat them like they're different to straight people. I also don't support corps using gay people as a tool to make money. Shame on them.

If gay people are bullied, attacked etc, the law is there to protect them. We have voted for marriage equality. Ireland is a place where gays are widely accepted as equal and I think it's absolutely stupid that you'd need to have a parade for people to know gays are supported.

Racism exists in the gaa at underage levels...why aren't the GAA doing a black pride march for them?

Irish people were victims of racism in the UK and still are yet I don't see any Irish Pride marches there?

I know gay lads who are dead sound and are just like everyone else. Then I see a lot of gay lads acting like being gay is an identity....like Daffyd from Little Britain.

God I liked your little homophobic rant at the end there, being masc gay is okay but not if you act fey, of course. Yes you are the epitome of accepting we don't need pride at all, just hide away inside. All those complaining about pride being flamboyant don't complain about halloween which is basically straight pride where straight people dress up in 'sexy' outfits and converge on the city centre on mass. Just because of gay marriage does not mean that there is total acceptance unfortunately things don't just magically change over night especially for trans people. A gay lad was beaten badly in Cavan, a lesbian couple on a bus in London were attacked. Get over yourself The other absurd comment on this thread was the link between gay pride, pro immigration hypocrisy good lord on that one. Plenty of people fleeing homophobic regimes seeking asylum here. Also the people saying that they are going to get drunk with their straight mates for pride etc., one of the problems is that multi nationals, mainly banks have turned it into a corporate festival and as soon as people see capitalist symbols they think that it's a free for all and that they should participate and that they know how to act appropriately which judging by the insensitivity in this thread ye don't have a clue so please stay away instead of coming pretending that you are part of it and then getting drunk and acting the pr1ck to someone because you have no understanding.

    Sound.
    paragraphs help your cause too.

    So tl;dr for your rant?

Some people were abused and were called bad names. Homophobia.

Lots of other people were abused and called bad names but they weren't gay. It's ok though. Probs not a hate crime.

If you want to be a victim, you can. That goes for everyone of any race, creed or ability.

    None for me so far.

If my employer goes down the LGBT mandatory lanyard route I will hand in my notice on grounds of equality.
