Simple answer is that the LGBT community are probably in pole position from a narrative perspective at the moment and have allot of support behind them. They no longer need to go for the tolerant approach/debate approach to bring people along with them.

Its easier to just label and belittle those that raise any questions.

Seems to be an obsession with the USA here! It's the evangelical Christians over there who are pushing anti-LGBT hate. Thankfully they are not as prominent here though they are trying a comeback, the Catholic ones that is.

Understandably enough as Ireland consumes allot of the American politics and adopts it for itself. I know we filter it down at times but some of it we try and just transplant straight in (when i say we i mean the collective we, everyone).

The last paragraph is about how we move forward as a society when we have all of these items coming down the track and we are at a stage where any nay-sayers is just a bigot and can be ignored. The last line means the vitriol at the medical professionals that took part in the trans documentary on RTE.

That is great news on the LGBT stuff in primary schools and even more so that it hasn't gone negative either way so far. Don't get me wrong for one second, i have three daughters one of which has autism, today's society as it stands is so non-inclusive its absolutely crazy.

I am just concerned that the polarization on both sides will lead us to a more unequal world. Discounting opinions we don't like and writing people off is the road to ruin.

Usually bring the kids in earlyish. It's a good day out, lots of colour and fun and it's nice to teach the kids exactly what it's about and the meaning behind the protest/celebration. Not sure if I'll make it this year, we could be away.

So yes you can have your own opinions on things but if you dogmatically push them onto your kids you may end up having the opposite impact.

So by me teaching my daughter that people shouldn't be ashamed or proud of how they were born and they should be proud of the decisions they make and how they treat others...

I think you need to take a minute or two and step back because i don't think we are at odds like you think we are.

I agree with the approach you are taking with your daughter but i was just explaining what i thought the other poster meant. I also agree with their point because kids rebel if you push to hard that's the nature of the beast. It doesn't matter what your politics are if you don't listen to your children and force your opinion on them you may have the opposite effect than you planned.
