I just knew that the Irish were behind all of this tomfoolery.

Well, the founder of the Provisional Irish Republican Army was born John Edward Drayton Stephenson in Leytonstone, London, in 1928, to an English Protestant father and English Protestant mother (of Ulster Protestant descent).

Then there's Erskine Childers, Rose Dugdale and numerous others. It's disgraceful the way people have the temerity to make their own choices in their own lives, rather than feel obliged to conform to other people's expectation based on some randomly selected aspect of their family's past...

In fairness, unlike Tony Benn Corbyn is distinguished by his lack of courage and myopia. He's still playing silly party political games, afraid to lose Brexit-voters by defining his party as a pro-EU party and thus realigning British politics. There is zero leadership, zero vision, from the man. I couldn't think of a worse leader at this time.

In fairness, being the leader of the Labour Party was never an issue for Tony Benn nor was leaving the EU, which Benn would have favoured. Benn didn't have to lead, Corbyn broke the stranglehold of Blairism Benn only dreamed of.

A politician playing political games, who'd have thunk it and finally your point that there are no dissenting voices anymore is a nonsense, they just happen to be one's you don't personally agree with.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

The idea that there was a left wing opposition to the EU (or the EEC before it ) has disappeared down the memory hole.

There's more to it than that.

Labour are playing a longer, somewhat dodgy, game. If the Tories manage to crash the British economy then they're fucked for a generation and Labour get to enact socialist reforms in its wake.

Even if the CONs are prevented from crashing Britain out of the EU then a general election is likely and it looks like the Brexit party could split the Conservative vote leaving a possible Lib-Dem Labour government to enact a soft Brexit while the right tears itself apart in its wake.

Where are the kind, cultured, civilised and compassionate English? All we hear since Brexit is about the most coarse, unsophisticated, undereducated, angry and alienated English, being used to advance the agendas of mendacious, flag-waving, wealthy populist opportunists. Even in early Brexit we had Ken Clarke, but now that poor, honourable man just seems to be exhausted.

Even in the worst of the Troubles there was Tony Benn. A man derided by Thatcherites at the time, but a man of incredible compassion, fairness and integrity to match his intelligence and eloquence. I distinctly recall his being on BBC's Question Time in the early '90s where he encountered enormous abuse, but he persisted in a very calm, dignified manner to educate millions of people about Irish history. By demonstrating that decent English people were willing to speak up for people who were being demonised he actually strengthened his country.

Every political system, indeed every people, need people of such courage and compassion. We're simply not seeing them anymore in England. I think that is a really, really disturbing development.
Nigel Farage is the Freedom Fighter that the British need now .

He is leading his Country to Democracy and Freedom .

Nigel Farage is the Greatest Freedom Fighter since Michael Collins . God bless them both .

There isn’t much in your post to reply to tbh.

But, if you think I’m defending English hooligans by suggesting they “get the hose” then perhaps your reading comprehension isn’t the best.

They are nearly as badly behaved as Tyrone gaa fans.

Done to fit on with the other youths in the republic set up apparently. Which leads to the question wtf sort of set up they have down there.

A fair whack of Wolfe tones on the team bus playlist by the sounds of it. It got so hardcore armchair republican at one stage that the most oppressed person on earth McLean apparently asked them to tone it down a bit...

I’ll say to you what I said about Rice at the time. It was a piss poor “but all the other lads were doing it” reason/excuse which I have seen no evidence of.

Like a young child trying to deflecting the blame instead of manning up, owning his behaviour and apologising.

His excuse just casts a negative light on the other lads...none of whom have had any similar social media messages shown.

Possibly, but when one of your senior players is constantly acting the maggot and posting blatantly pro republican spoutings I wouldn’t be surprised about young rice tellin the truth tbh.

No thanks, this isn’t a court of law. It’s after hours ffs.

But one of your senior players has been firing off social media posts about his love of the broad black brimmer etc. I know he is one of the most oppressed people ever on earth but i mean wtf.

It’s almost a comedy at this point.

(Great draw against the Danes Btw)

So based on one player liking a song there is an issue of IRA support within our national team setup all the way down to underage level?

Sure, I’ll say there’s a racism problem within NI football based on Corry Evans’ wife.

Seeing as we're just going all in on assumptions here you could also easily assume that every NI player is a racist seeing as it's a trait of all loyalists.

You’re the one saying there’s something wrong with the Irish setup and implying they’re IRA supporters because one player sings a Wolfe Tone song and another one (who has made it quite clear he’s not even Irish) tweeted something stupid when he was 16.

I’m making an equally ridiculous generalisation to show you that’s not how it works.

You are coming from a country whose leader send his condolences re Adolf’s death so you would be really taking the pish here.

I wouldn’t defend loyalists anyway. I’ve no idea if they are all racist. I don’t think that was relevant to most of those terrorists but maybe you know different.

The whole condolences to Hitler thing is a very loyalist trope.

It did. Stupid mistake - but knowing about it or caring about is for the rabid fleg burners.
