    Shocking stuff, inexcusable.

    Can't believe he lost.

I think he'll win a maximum of nine games tomorrow, but happy nonetheless Thiem got the important win.

The right result. The Joker only stayed in it because rain saved him 3 times. If it wasn’t for rain it would have been done in 3 or 4, and he’d have expended less energy ahead of the final.

The stars aligned perfectly for Rafa this tournament with his easy route to the final and most of the guys who have beaten him on clay being on the other half. Not that he needs the stars aligning to win RG, but it would make for a more interesting spectacle if he wasn’t so lucky, and drew Fognini in the 4th round and had Thiem in the quarters or semis.

Djokovic deservedly received humble pie after efforts at gamesmanship.

Does'nt Thiem play him in the final?

Different beast playing him relatively fresh in a quarter than battered up from a long semi final.

Nadal will have one tough match all tournament. Staggering.

Thiem is the number 4 seed.

Nadal is the number 2 seed.

Both of those seedings are correct.

So how is it lucky he didn't get to play Thiem in the quarter finals when the only way they would have played at that stage is if one of them was seeded between 5 and 8 which of course wouldn't happen as they are both in the top 4 in the world at the moment on merit.

Prob Djokovics last good chance to win a 2nd French gone but Thiem more than deserved it that

Barty in good form today. Those forehands are landing nicely indeed.

Could BBC have chosen more unflattering photos of the final duo?!

Barty is no looker for sure/ bit of a brute but Vondrousova looks better than that.

    Thiem deserved the win.

It was a good match but the delays hampered it. Hopefully Thiem has enough in the tank to make a match of it tomorrow.

this is shaping up to be another classic women's GS final!*

    (*some sarcasm employed)

Unless Vondrousova can step up a few gears, this match could be over fairly soon.

Barty takes the first set 6-1.

Anyone else find the coverage almost unwatchable with the constant flicking from one camera angle to another?

He's not really though. Keep in mind, it wasn't a continuous 5 sets. They had numerous breaks over two days. He will be a lot fresher than after a regular 5 sets for sure.

Also, he's young. Djokovic will find it much harder to get out of the scratcher in the morning than Thiem

€300 well spent for a ticket to this shambles!

Thiem has beaten Nadal 4 times on clay, and only recently at Barcelona, but never at RG.

    https://www.atptour.com/en/players/fedex-head-2-head/rafael-nadal-vs-dominic-thiem/N409/TB69

He really has to believe that he can do it. He (Thiem) said today that
"To play Rafa here on this court, is always the ultimate challenge, one of the toughest challenges sports in general give. I played a really good match against him in Barcelona. It was six weeks ago. So of course I'll try to do similar [things] even though it's way tougher to play him here,"

I'm not sure that that displays belief that he can do it really!

    Let's see.

indeed, the French are always guilty of this no matter what sporting event they cover

The head of Studio thinks they are something like Stanley Kubrick

*on pervy note, who is the Blonde German girl in the Eurosport studio?

It's a problem with everything from sport to cookery but this tournament has been one of the worst offenders.

Changing angles right up to the moment the server hits the ball as though that will somehow make the spectacle more enjoyable when instead it makes the rally impossible to follow.

Why can't they just allow for the natural ebb and flow of a game instead of trying to inject drama into every millisecond of coverage?

The constant ad breaks and Courier's verbal diarrhea are bad enough.
I gave up on Thiem-Djokovic at 5-5 in the fifth.

    Barbara Schett who is Austrian.

I commented earlier in the thread that she seems to be getting better looking as the years have gone on, I don't remember her being a looker when she was playing tennis.

70 minutes for a GS final between 2 players with no previous GS pedigree really - pretty pathetic stuff.

Women's tennis is all over the shop -> even more so than usual.

PC to say it or not - it would be nothing except for the fact that the big events follow the same schedule as the men's tour.

Fair point. Last year he wasn’t in top 4 from memory. Still ended up on other side of the draw. Just the luck of the draw. It’s definitely more interesting for spectators and viewers if Rafa doesn’t get such a cake walk of a draw though. As quarter finals and semi finals go, Nishikori, and an aging Federer on clay are as soft as it gets.

Womens tennis used to be quite good too before the modern power game came in and took all the imagination out of the game. Matches are just slow slug-fests now until someone makes an error. Most girls aren't built to stand up to that. It's why Serena won so much, she's just a monster physically.

So even if you get an amazingly clever player, like Radwanska, the modern game prohibits them from advancing much. They'll never get as far as some girl who just mindlessly crushes the ball left and right so why bother teaching young girls anything else?

You see it to a lesser extent in the men's game too with most of the younger guys having very similar looking games. But male physical ability deals with it much better so interesting styles and point play can still shine through.

The french open is a farce of a competition at this stage, Nadal is just too good (I know it's not Nadals fault) Thiem will be beaten tomorrow 3/0 , at the absolute best (and I see a 0.000000000000000000001% chance of this) he wins one set.

Literally no other male player has a chance of winning the French Open - 0% chance - till earliest 2024.

It's a total joke at this stage.

What do you them to do about it ask Nadal not to try as hard.It is not farcical that the best player wins the tournament, major championships in all sports exists in order to identify the best players and teams.

It's not the tournaments fault that he happens to be so ridiculously good, Nadal on clay is probably the greatest sportsperson of all time.
