Tiny minority of them, in fairness.

Go on home, English football fans, go on home.

Nothing they do surprises me anymore. Can’t let them anywhere.
Absolute scum. No time at all for them. Booze filled, coke heads the lot of them.

ban them from football matches for life.

When the they sing "**** the Pope", "Fenian Scum" and "No Surrender" and "**** the IRA" in an Irish bar they mean us. They mean Irish people. It's not really a theological thing. Do you not remember when they destroyed Landsdowne Road with the National Front and Combat 18?

Whether you're an atheist or don't like Sinn Fein is not really the point. I'm amazed people still don't grasp this.

Detest anti Irish bigotry and hardline loyalism and the forelock tugging whatabouting apologism from some here, but yeah I don't see the issue with chanting "**** the IRA" by people in whose country the IRA committed murders. And the irony of complaining about bigotry by some English people and then calling "the English" scum.

"**** the pope" - yeah that's coming from an anti Irish Catholic place all right, but it's still just "**** the pope". Any hooligans - English or otherwise - should get a good dose of reprisal from the police, and hopefully whatever type of banning is possible.

Not really, only morons who don't know the history of the term, England fans or our country. But yes I'm sure you could curry favour with Loyalists in the North and Rangers fans in Scotland.

Why would I want to curry favor with loyalists or rangers fans just because I hate the church and the ra

It's in their nature, they are scumbags.

They should be removed from the tournament.

We should not be shocked either, I remember those bastards ripping up the west stand at Lansdowne road. ****.
Seen a few English journos saying they should be banned from playing away and forfeit games until they clean house.

They didn't do anything of the sort. Broke a few wooden seats and benches that should have been thrown out a decade earlier.

A nasty bunch of sub-human vermin all the same, I really enjoyed seeing the garda riot squad getting to work on them.

Agreed and I think if Irish fans had any self-respect the next foreign match they travel to watch Ireland play in - they should be chanting "*** the UVF" in whose country the UVF committed murders

Isn't it interesting how these clowns weren't running riot in Russia last year. They know where they can get away with acting the maggot and a mere arrest for disorder is the worst they can expect. They'd have been battered with impunity by the Russian police if they tried to kick off and funnily enough they were on their best behavior there with the only flash points being scuffles and in-fighting between other English fans.
Russians beat the ****e out em in France. They knew they would get battered so didn't want it.

Wouldn't be into the rioting but could get on board with the songs.
F**k the pope who as head of the Catholic Church is complicit if not ultimately responsible for the covering up of thousands of cases of child sexual abuse and multiple other crimes.
**** the IRA who as a terrorist organisation is responsible for hundreds killed and thousands injured, many of those innocent bystanders.

As other people have said, these chants are ciphers for Irish people in general and a statement of British supremacy. They aren’t genuine political and theological disagreements with Pope Francis and Gerry Adams for f*ck’s sake. They’re a bunch of far right yobs doing the fool.

Are anti-IRA songs not a bit behind the times? Should they not be saying f*ck Mohammed and f*ck ISIS, who have been behind the most recent atrocities in Britain? F*ck the Imam Abu Usamah at-Thahabi Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham? Has a nice ring to it.
Also, I think I need a shower after looking at the comments on some of those Twitter links.

Yeah that's totally what I said. Don't be silly.

Only you brought self respect into it.

My point is: why take "**** the IRA" as a slight on us normal non violent Irish people? The IRA have nothing to do with me.

Of course all football hooligans are scum though, and will hopefully be arrested and more.

They sing about ISIS as well, Muslims and "pakis" etc.

Oh good for them, spreading it around at least.
Actually I remember them playing Turkey in Sunderland years ago to the chorus of "I'd rather be a Paki than a Turk".

Yes but Irish fans sing The Fields of Athenry and have a refrain about Sinn Fein and the IRA, is that any better?

Honest to god are people being stupid for the sake of it on this thread.

They aren't chanting that due to any objection they have to the Pope or the IRA, it's just plain old sectarianism. The more sensible england fans don't tend to chant that sort of stuff.

Also I think the violence added in with the chants kid of take away from whatever political point idiots like you seem to think they might be making.
