Are all the UK sides in the group stages or do they have to qualify? I know Liverpool, City and Chelsea are, not sure about Spurs, would seem rough as they made the final.

I'd actually like to get someone like Atletico or Ajax tbh. But then again, both teams seem like they are going to be taken apart this summer.

all 4 make the group stage automatically since the season just gone - we didn't have to qualify this season after finishing 4th in the league and losing the final last season.

I'd love to get Ajax, Celtic and Leipzig or BVB, Benfica, Kopenhagen.

Worst case would be Real/Alethico, Lyon, Galatasary.

That’s bizarre to say the least on Real Madrid. Without going into the history to much.... they’ve won 3 of the least 4 FFS

Hopefully there are some upsets and more crap teams get into the group stages. Pushing the likes of Locomotiv and Genk into Pot 3 and being worse than Lille who are guaranteed Pot 4 but are actually a decent team (though will likely lose Pepe)

Nothing official, Liverpool got one less point this season then they did last season on UEFA's rankings

    https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/club/#/yr/2019

How does it work that we got a point less this year?

Stranger to see the Russian Champs auto qualify and get pot1!
Portuguese or Dutch winners should be auto qualifies and ahead of them.

Pot 1 is reserved for CL winners and EL winners if they have not won there respective leagues and that league is not in the top 8 leagues in UEFA.

As Liverpool and Chelsea won those, leagues winners from 7 & 8 drop out of Pot one.

There will be some very tuff groups to get out of ,

Pot 2 the two Madrid clubs ,
Pot 3 Inter & Lyon are no joke ,
pot 4 Lile , Atlanta & Leipzig are no joke

They days when you could play Göteborg, Basel and Standard in a group are long gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

The group from 17/18 was pretty good (not long ago), apart from Sevilla.. Spartak Moscow and Maribor were about as good as you could hope for. Even Sevilla was probably the weakest team from pot 1.

Actually that's true! Deffo got lucky in that draw but overall the era that Nordic and other minor league sides would be regulars is more or less over.

I was looking at getting the European Jersey for next season till I saw the price.

€112.50 da fcuk I'm paying that for it.

Last jersey I brought was special edition after we won the CL for the 5th time (one of my favourite shirts), was shocked to see the prices of them now.

Still gonna get the home GK jersey, think it looks great. Sold out everywhere though, not often you see that for a GK jersey!

Panathinaikos, Sturm Graz & Brondby in the group stage every year!

Virgil van Dijk has told #LFC he wants to extend his commitment to the club. Formal discussions have not begun yet, with both parties relaxed and confident about the process...

    Class from Milner.

Was very underwhelmed with his signing initially but probably ‘The Rodgers’ best signing and he has made me eat my words.

Also reading the Van Dijk wants to extend his contract. I know contracts mean little or nothing these days but the best centre back in the world is telling the the club he wants an extension...imagine thinking that would happen a few years ago.

    Edit: As above.

That's super if Virgil wants to extend his contract.

With regard to Milner he has been an excellent signing for us and seems like an all round nice guy.

On the topic of Milner, Giles was on Dunphys podcast yesterday and spouted some rubbish about Klopp. He likes to call Klopp "one trick poney" etc and his management of the game at 1-0 , wasting time etc.

Dunphy disagreed saying you just have to win anyway possible in a final . Liverpool learned from Madrid last year to be cute with slowing the game down etc.

Anyway, Giles said he would pick Milner over Henderson in every game , I thought Jesus what he on tbh .

Both have their qualities and suit different games tbh. Henderson has that energy and passion but it’s also a negative and he can be completely taken out of the game by being wound up...see Hazard giving him the run around last season.

Milner is the opposite and is as cool as can be. He’s probably the most cynical player we have and knows exactly when to give away a free, and probably the only player in squad who knows how to use manage a game by going down at the slightest touch.

Milner is more old school dark arts type of player along with being a hard tackler no nonsense player with a football brain.

Giles loves those type of player it the nostalgia from his days so it is very easy to see why Giles would love him.

The dark arts of time wasting cynical but not dirting fouls stop starting of games and knowing how to kill off a game is what this team learned from losing the 207/18 final and Milner is a master at that.
