Wouldnt the law society have a list of registered laywers who are still registered and practising? Might be worth a call.

As for the phone you're no longer listed if you either register your number as ex directory or change your service provider to an non eircom service provider - or get rid of your land line - or move bysiness premises and leave the number.

Could be any of the above or he could be retired/emigrated/deceased/living it up in Vegas.

Law society might be easier.
