Great to see another US president grace these shores. Hopefully trade links between Ireland and US strenghten. Ireland has always being closer to Boston than Brussels.

Well, I just hope neither side makes us a laughing joke to the world's media.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

All trade deals are ratified by the Houses of Representatives and Senators, not the U.S. President. It would make more sense if elected officials from those two houses came here to discuss trade instead of an over-inflated orange balloon full of hot air.

Trump is visiting his hotel in doonbeg. He has no interest in Ireland or meeting people here. Leo has to meet him at the airport as he refused to go anywhere except his hotel.

Not sure it does anything for trade. Multinationals are well aware of all the tax haven's already no doubt.

Might do a bit for his golf course though.

He's unconventional, he's imperfect, I disagree with him on some issues like gun control.

On a whole, however, a great leader. Tells it like it is, the subject of unbelievable media bias, shows disrespect to those who deserve no respect, and isn't an employee of a higher up foreign power like our own "leaders" are.

Welcome, Donald. The money I'd pay to see him debate a loser like Ruth Coppinger, Paul Murphy, Brid Smith, Aodhan O'Riordan or any other waste of space with the emotional intellect of a curtain who will be making their presence felt this week.

Didn't leo pull a stroke or two for the great orange one.

They'll get on like a house on fire.

Hopefully the rain holds off for him to get a round of golf in, you can't buy that level of marketing for this country.

Maybe the taoiseach doesn't want to be seen in a property that the CAB will be seizing in a few years.

I can't believe a fascist sexist misogynistic pig like Trump is allowed here.

    How dare they!!
I mean the guy is LITERALLY Hitler ...
Why can't we have decent moral fellows like the Chinese PM visit ?

In fairness, he's only visiting his hotel in Doonbeg because it's "convenient". Ah, yes. The world renowned convenience of the hour long drive from Shannon Airport to Doonbeg. :pac:

What I'd imagine is convenient for him is that the US tax payer will foot the bill for him to visit his own hotel where he'll likely meet up with business partners and donors. As f*cked as the Irish political system and leadership is, it doesn't hold a candle to the US.

Hope he doesn't visit Galway, the traffic will be even worse than usual.

The majority of Irish Americans are right wing morons. You could be on to something about this being a marketing opportunity toward them.

I think we can be comfortable in the fact that Donald will make a laughing stock of himself all on his own.

Thing is, all of those people you've referenced are far better debaters than Trump. Making personal insults about your opponents and making **** up is not considered to be good debating.

Think the guy spends most of his time playing golf in one place or another in fairness.

Has cost the American tax payer a minor fortune.

I’ve no particular love for those you’ve mentioned but Trump couldn’t debate his way to an extra dessert at his own hotel without lashing out.

A child of a man too used to getting his own way and who acts in a completely unpresidential manner insulting anyone who doesn’t agree with him.

That’s not debate. It’s a tantrum via Twitter.

I can think of better ways to spend €10 million of taxpayers money to protect Trump for the 2 days .

Its not even an official visit, he is not visiting Government buildings in Dublin or the US Embassy.

I know trump is obsessed with optics and appearance.

Going by the footage of him coming down the steps of the plane in London id rank him bottom of the list of all presidents since jfk in terms of appearance.

He doesn’t look even slightly presidential.

    Hitler... pipe down there.
If you think that democracy is better than despotic leaderships full of nepotism then you have to accept that he was the chosen one of the majority of Americans who voted. And news for the permanently outraged.... he will be again come the next election. So maybe build a bridge and get over it.

Welcome to Donald, Doonbeg is beautiful and a lovely hotel to boot.

Agree, my post was a parody of many of the serious outraged people out there.
eg - Pat Kenny and Tubridy with their daily hour of Trump screeching
