Liverpool approch is very very strange but its working so far

Trying not to concede at all costs and looking to sneak a goal, which they've done. It'll be more of the same in the second half.

One of the weirdest games I've watched in a while, impossible to get into

It's almost like an outer body experience. Everything is slow and hazy.

Niall Quinn just read out the rule,100% penalty.

Didn't know about arm above shoulder part of that rule. Fair enough, I take back what I said, it's a peno but it's still harsh.

Worst quality I've seen in a Champions League final, hopefully the second half can improve.

You clearly never saw Steaua Bucharest- Barca in 1986

The long lay-off hasn't helped, game was been noticeably lower in quality than normal for both sides. Would expect to improve in the 2nd half, Tottenham should take more chances

I think everyone agrees that it's a pen with the new directive but the new directive is a little unfair

It's only working because they had easy start.

Gary Lineker nearly fainted when Glenn Hoddle tried to say it’s been a poor game!

It'll open up if there's no goal and then we might get another. If you know what I mean.

Handling is deliberately playing the ball with one’s hand or arm. The hand or arm must move toward the ball or the hand or arm must be carried in an unnatural position before an infraction of the rule can be charged.

Please note the following when interpreting this rule:

Handling includes not only the hand but also the arm or the area between the shoulders and the finger tips, thus, moving the upper arm, elbow or lower arm to play the ball is considered handling.
The act of handing must be deliberate. There has to be intent to play the ball unless the hand or arm is carried in an unnatural position.

Finals are generally overrated. After the semis drama not much can happen this year to impress tbh.

    100%

It is like those dreams where your legs go wobbly and you cannot run fast or get anywhere. It's like a grim ngihtmare.

While it is very harsh we have seen those penalties been given. E.g Utd vs PSG. But why the hell had he is arm up like that

The key difference in that instance, and in the City penalty v Spurs, is the ball hits the arm first. This hits his chest and then on to his arm. What is he meant to do?

The way I’d put it is, imagine if the player is running in stride. Their arm isn’t “naturally” beside their body because they’re running, so if a player hits the ball at them and it hits them on their torso/leg/head and then hits their arm, is that a breach of the rules too?

Wasn't there a penalty against Tottenham like that. His arm was out and over the head in a really bizarre way

You run with your arms beside you, that’s natural so a penalty shouldn’t be awarded. Unless you are a goalkeeper it is ‘unnatural’ for a player to raise their arm above their head into the air. It’s even more unnatural when you know you are in the box and the attacking team are likely to try and shoot.

Yeah the city penalty in the second leg of the emi final. The ball directly hits his arm though so UEFA trot out the technicalities of the rule book and they get to say it’s correct.

This hits his chest. Bounces on to his arm. It’s in no way the same scenario. The referee dropped a clanger by not deciding to review it himself at the pitch side screen.

Not according to that directive and it will be same in all matches from next season

The amount of hoofball has been something else though.

I think most people who have actually played the game or have a rational mind can see it was not a penalty.

From what they say about CL rules this year its a penalty according to the rules. Its a new next season rule that applies to the CL this year already. So fair enough, goal, but I dont agree wit this rule change. Its ridiculous, point blank range, no intention, no movement towards the ball, the ball didn't even go towards goal. If thats the new rule they got it wrong.

Since when does unnatural = foul?

The ball hits his chest, then his arm. If it hit his arm directly it’s a pen all day long but it doesn’t.

A bit more life in the game now. Spurs have the upper hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,371 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Spurs from the kickoff looking to have committed more players further forward. Poor ball there though, not a difficult one. Kane been poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭FatherTed

Guys there is nothing about natural or unnatural position of hands or arms in the FIFA handball law so I don’t know why people keep bringing that up.

    They may change the directive.

I think players will start practicing trying to hit players on the arm in the box. It’s tidiculous.
