Very interesting! If you figure that out, will you share it here?

this interested my so I did some digging on IFTTT, but could not easily find anything to toggle hotspots. For fear of wasting a sheadload of time I just went for this instead (which cost €2.99).

Clay Davis never struck me for an EV kinda guy.

How that app has never been spread around this thread i've no idea.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's the first time it's been mentioned.

As for Clay Davis, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Bjorn Nyland is a rip off merchant :D

This is a personal story, and a word of warning for those that are interested...

I attempted to install firmware upgrade by myself last week.
It turned into a significant disaster. I got stuck on a rebot cycle that was never ending.

I did a lot of googling and found only one other instance of this happening to someone - major difference being that for the other person the upgrade was being done by the dealer and not by the individual.

One think that we both had in common (and it's probably not a coincidence) is that we both previously side loaded Torque Pro, Easy Touch, Total Commander YouTube and other apps.

His whole head unit needed to be replaced. I got mine working after hours of persistance, luck, and randomly hitting keys on a USB keyboard...

I was withing a hairs breath of bricking my head unit.

Personally I'll be doing my next firmware upgrade though the dealership.

I strongly suspect that the failure was related to he previously side loaded apps... but that might be a coincidence...

I've been flashing firmware on devices for decades. But I stopped short of doing it on my €25k car when the dealer does it for free.

Glad you got sorted, irishgrover, that must have been a nightmare you were in :(

I updated my own firmware and maps twice. Exactly the same method and software used by Hyundai. I had no Issues, but I wouldn't go as far as accessing the Andriod and side loading stuff. That's a risk I was unwilling to take. But I would love to have most of the apps native on the head unit.

Zap map would be one I'd love to have on the head unit.

Kinda glad I went to the dealer in the end, my whole upgrade only took over 2 hours, I guess how long it takes depends on which version of the firmware you have installed. I already had last year's version so maybe my download was small.

Anyone know if theyll do a free update (with a (paid) service) if the car is imported?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭denismc

Yes, my car was imported and there was no problem, Europe wide warranty.
I think they just have to enter the cars VIN number and check that it's on Hyundai database.
Just make sure to ask when checking the Car in

They even do it without a paid service. Every new version has some issues fixed. So you go to your dealer, tell them an issue that was fixed with the software and demand it to be fixed as a warranty repair.

I'll be getting a new Niro at the start of July. If anyone wants to make a bid on my Ioniq before I trade it in, go for it by PM. It's silver 181, with 20k kms. It's gonna be tough to beat the dealer offer though. :o

I'm a bit odd when it comes to putting financial matters on an open forum. PM sent.

Any pics? Looks like I've been let down by Hyundai in Galway for a second hand Ioniq, was ready to buy on the spot too.

I only have the one small enough for web at the moment.

What's the best place to upload photos to share?

That's worked fine! I'd normally used photobox to embed.

And to remind people there's really no benefit buying from a dealer if you can buy privately a lot cheaper provided you don't mind selling your own car privately too of course

Even the early 2017 Ioniq still have almost 3 years of bumper to bumper warranty left (and nearly 6 years on the drive train and battery)

Did lots of short trips today, the Hyundai app is working perfectly. Connects almost immediately when you turn the car on and switches off your mobile hotspot within 10s of locking the car. Very handy to have the live traffic info in front of you at all times without having to do anything :)

Can you see any live charger info? I tried a few yesterday and all just said "no info".

I tried that last week with hotspot and there was no live charger info avaialble for the irish chargers.
In theory you should be able to plot a course to a destination in the UK and see is there live info available for chargers on the route over there? Might try that this evening and see what happens

    That's some serious range you're getting :p

So I set Warrington as my destination, went to POI, searched for chargers at destination, and ensured "Live" was on. For some chargers a green dot appeared beside them, when clicking on information for that charger it showed type, number of chargers and number available.
So it would appear only some charging stations support this integration and none of the ones in Ireland support it

<EDIT>Editing to add some screenshots as initial post was via mobile... first pic is charging stations with Live view (note the green dots beside some to ID that charging information is available.
Then when you select a charger and look at info it gives you the additional information. You can see that there are 4 connectors in this location, but only 3 are available.
    </EDIT>

    Classic Ireland!

To be fair, the ESB do not make it easy to consume the raw live data from the chargers around the country. It's terribly formatted, if you can even call it formatted. Whoever put that ESB live charger status site together was either an idiot, or an intern.

I think they have a different feed that services can use. Zap-Map has more information than the eCars app or website.

The new Kinnegad Plaza opens today, just read that it will have a total of 4 rapid charge points in operation. 2 will be in operation from opening today, with at her 2 coming on line next week.

I’ll be popping in later to check it out.

Wondered that. Love Zap-Map. Spotting a charger that's been in use for 30 minutes when i'm on route to it is really helpful! Chances are it'll be free when I get there (or a car queuing). Used it to my advantage yesterday. Charged up, then a Leaf rolled in as I was nearly finished.

Then a Outlander PHEV rolled by and spotted the 2 of us charging (1 charging, 1 queued) and had to drive on. It felt great.

Does Zap Map or any of the other apps work through android auto?

Not out of the box. I'm sure it could be side loaded on though... at your own risk. Irishgrover has slightly put me off doing any sideloading.

Same as that, really annoying none of the charger apps with live info work through android auto.
