Is 'going for a walk' considered weird for young people?

I like to go for walks at the end of a stressful day. I feel as if it helps me put things in perspective. I'm not sure whether that's true or not, but it certainly helps me relax. I try to bring the dog, so it looks like I'm doing it for his sake. But when I didn't have a dog, I used to feel a bit weird doing it. I'd try my best to go in secluded areas where I wouldn't be seen.

I remember once going for a walk and bumping into a flat mate who was coming home. At one point he said "what are you doing?" and I answered "oh I'm just going for a walk". He then said "oh right good on ya" but there was that little giggle as he said it!

It amazes me the way youngsters don't seem to be able to appreciate the beauty of nature. Their house could be built in the middle of a landfill and they couldn't care less. Or maybe they would if they took their heads out of their smart phones!

I'd avoid walking alone in secluded areas for your own personal safety. Other than that, walking is great!

It's probably a generational thing.

My younger self would probably have thought it weird, well maybe not weird, unfathomable in the sense of just not getting it.
Now, I can appreciate it.

I was about to respond of course we don't think its weird.....then I remembered I'm almost 30 so I guess im not really a young person anymore. But I do love a good walk. Especially after sitting down in work all day.

They are people out there and the find lot's of things weird.
A few examples,
Going for a walk if your young.
Going to the cinema by yourself.
Going to the cinema with a member of the same sex.
Watching certain TV programs.
Having an unusual past time.

Was the person you met driving or cycling? Because if not they were also out for a walk.

Love going for a walk in secluded areas away from everyone, time to think and clear my head of work thoughts.

When I lived in Ireland I used to go to a secluded area with the dog, he loved being able to be totally free. It never goes unnoticed even if you think you are alone.

At around this time I got my first international contract. Life started to take off and people noticed. Next thing I noticed, I was having an affair with the wife of a business man who lived close to where I walked, hence the increase in spending....gotta love small town gossip.

When I was younger I had to walk everywhere or use public transport so if someone told me they we going for a walk as an enjoyable pass time I would have thought they were mad.

Of course very different now + love leaving the car behind. Although I prefer if my walk is in a nice park or by the sea

Then she tought I was even odder that I enjoy haveing a coffee in a coffee shop by myself while I sit on my laptop doing my college work.

To me this is normal things people do.

We walk with our kids all the time and they enjoy it a lot. But if we/they ever ask their friends to come along they almost never do and get a kind of "Why would I wanna do that?" look on their faces.

Their friends spend a lot of time watching you tube and similar on mobile phones. Anything that requires putting those away and doing something else - seems to require the hard sell.
