    9-1-1: Lone Star

9-1-1 Spinoff Lone Star Scores Series Order at Fox, Rob Lowe to Star
Somebody better sound the alarm at Firehouse 118, because a spinoff of 9-1-1 is officially coming to Fox.

The network has ordered to series 9-1-1: Lone Star, an offshoot starring Rob Lowe, TVLine has learned.

Set in Texas, 9-1-1: Lone Star will star Lowe as a sophisticated New York cop who, along with his son, relocates to Austin. There, he must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in his own life.

Lowe also will serve as an executive producer on the spinoff, along with 9-1-1 co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.

“The beauty of having a hit drama like 9-1-1 from the genius minds of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear is it allows you to explore thrilling stories as told through an array of distinctive characters,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment at Fox. “In 9-1-1: Lone Star, they’ve given us a special opportunity to expand the franchise into new territory — literally and figuratively — and we’re thrilled to have the incomparable Rob Lowe headline this new iteration when it joins our schedule next season.”

Added Lowe, “Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear’s ability to make smart, unique, great television is unmatched. I’m elated to join this team.”

Not surprised at WC, guess she'll be back to TWD next season then
WBTV are shopping to other networks but, more importantly, SVOD - I think WC has a decent chance of getting onto a streaming platform if they can cut back the costs.

There's supposed to be a spinoff but with younger actors. There are also films planned, with Andrew Lincoln expected to be involved.

    Whiskey Cavalier

‘Whiskey Cavalier’: ABC Explores Bringing Back Canceled Series For Season 2
This is by no means a Timeless uncancelling situation yet but ABC has been in conversations with producer Warner Bros. Television about a second season of recently canceled freshman drama Whiskey Cavalier.

Sources caution that the talks have been exploratory and it is unclear whether they would lead to an agreement. But I hear that a decision by ABC one way or another is expected shortly — as early as today — because the show’s stars Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan are being courted for other projects and it is costly for WBTV to continue to hold onto the the drama’s expansive sets.

In one of the most dramatic developments this upfront season, ABC at the 11th hour canceled new spy drama Whiskey Cavalier starring Foley and Cohan, after one season.

The cancellation triggered a strong reaction from fans who launched a Save the Show campaign on social media. A similar grassroots effort two years ago led to NBC reversing its decision to cancel another co-production freshman drama from an outside studio, Sony TV’s Timeless, with a second-season renewal.

“It was a tough decision, it was the last decision we made,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said of Whiskey Cavalier‘s cancellation last week. “We thought we gave it very strong launch in spring. But we lost audience. We felt the biggest opportunity was to try something new. We looked for other time slots but did not see a real opportunity to grow.”

While not entirely unexpected given the show’s ratings performance, this was still a stunning development as Whiskey Cavalier had been touted as one of ABC’s biggest new series for this season and became the network’s first scripted show to launch after the Oscars. That is the big launch Burke was referring to.

Since then, Whiskey Cavalier saw its ratings decline until settling into subpar 0.4 adults 18-49 rating (Live+Same Day), airing in the Wednesday 10 PM slot picked so the comedic drama cold take advantage of ABC’s comedy block as a lead-in.

Following the cancellation news, last night’s finale, boosted by a strong lead-in from the live staging of All In the Family and The Jeffersons, Whiskey Cavalier drew its best Live+same day numbers since the show’s Wednesday debut, posting a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49, almost doubling its recent results, and 3.8 million viewers. The drama also is a major DVR gainer, more than doubling its Live+same delivery.

I hear the big ratings jump last night paired with strong delayed viewing numbers for last week’s episode have been a major factor in ABC brass’ decision to reconsider the show’s cancellation. Additionally, it has big stars in Scandal’s Foley and The Walking Dead’s Cohan and a seasoned team behind it in creator/exec producer David Hemingson and exec producer Bill Lawrence.

After the finale ended with some cliffhangers last night, Lawrence assured fans on Twitter that their questions would be answered if there is a second season.

Factoring in ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier cancelation decision was the fact that the network, also at the last minute, moved in to pick up to series NBC drama pilot Emergence, which is produced by ABC Studios. I hear it came down to one spot, and it went to Emergence as ABC brass thought they needed to try something new in the time slot. The Emergence trailer has been doing very well, topping the ranking for views among new fall broadcast series.

WBTV jumped into action immediately after ABC canceled Whiskey Cavalier the weekend before the upfronts, pitching the show to various platforms. It is a sleek, big-budget, globe-trotting actioner, which is important to the studio for its international sale appeal and because of the big investment the studio already has made in it.

But ABC is considered the most realistic option. While other canceled broadcast drama series, like Lucifer and Designated Survivor, wound up on Netflix, the streaming platform already had full or partial international distribution rights to those shows, which is not the case with Whiskey Cavalier. For WBTV, which relies on strong international sales for the series, having it on a broadcast network in the US is considered the most advantageous scenario. The studio’s talks with ABC were first reported by TVLine.

Whiskey Cavalier follows the globe trotting adventures of two very different secret agents Will Chase (Foley) and Frankie Trowbridge (Cohan). That cast also includes Ana Ortiz, Tyler James Williams and Vir Das.

Hemingson created and writes the series and serves as executive producer alongside Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and pilot director Peter Atencio. Foley is also a producer.

    Peep Show

Cult British Comedy ‘Peep Show’ In Development At FX With Karey Dornetto Writing Gender Reversal Remake
Cult British comedy Peep Show is getting another chance at a U.S. adaptation with a script in development at FX. The series, which ran for nine seasons on Channel 4, is getting a gender role reversal with the two leads – played by David Mitchell and Robert Webb in the UK original – set to be played by women.

Portlandia and Superstore writer and co-exec producer Karey Dornetto is writing the adaptation.

It is the latest attempt after Starz attempted a remake in 2016, while Fox took a run at a pilot, starring The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, in 2005 and Spike gave it a chance in 2008.

Sam Bain, who created the series with Jesse Armstrong (Succession), revealed the development in a self-penned article in The Guardian about diversity. “People sometimes ask if I look at my earlier work differently now – whether my shows would have been better if they had been more diverse. What would Peep Show have been like with women as the two leads? It’s a great question – and it’s one I’ll shortly have the answer to, because there is a script in development for a U.S. Peep Show with two female leads. It’s at FX Networks and it will be written by top comedy brain Karey Dornetto,” wrote Bain, who is also behind Demi Moore-feature comedy Corporate Animals.

Peep Show, which is shot through the point of view of the first-person, ran between 2003 and 2015, making it C4’s longest ever running comedy. It followed the lives of Mark Corrigan, a socially awkward loan manager, played by Mitchell, and Jeremy Usborne, a juvenile slacker and unemployed musician, played by Webb. The dysfunctional pair share a flat in London, having met at University. The show, which also starred Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie and Matt King, was a critical hit in the UK, where it won a raft of awards.

    Manhunt: Lone Wolf

Carla Gugino To Star In Spectrum Series About Atlanta Bombing
Carla Gugino has been tapped as the female lead opposite Jack Huston and Cameron Britton in season 2 of Spectrum Originals’ anthology series Manhunt, from Lionsgate Television.

Spectrum parent Charter Communications last year made a deal with Lionsgate for new seasons of the Manhunt anthology series whose first installment, Manhunt: Unibomber, ran on Discovery Channel.

Season 2, Manhunt: Lone Wolf, will chronicle one of the largest and most complex manhunts on U.S. soil — the search for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Bomber, Eric Rudolph (Huston) — and the media firestorm that consumed the life of Richard Jewell (Britton) in its wake.

Gugino will play Kathy Scruggs, a hard-drinking, tough-talking crime reporter for Atlanta’s biggest daily newspaper who gets the once-in-a-lifetime scoop that Richard Jewell may be the Olympic Park bomber. Breaking the biggest story in the world makes a Kathy a sensation – but her life unravels as evidence starts pointing against it being the truth.

Manhunt: Lone Wolf is being shepherded by the core creative team behind Manhunt: Unabomber, led by executive producer John Goldwyn and writer/executive producer Andrew Sodroski. They exec produce with Michael Dinner.

Gugino is coming off a starring role in another anthology drama series, Netflix’s The Haunting Of Hill House. She next plays the title role in the new Cinemax drama series Jett, premiering June 14, and begins filming the female-driven action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake in Berlin next month. Gugino is repped by Untitled Entertainment and UTA.
