It just integrates with the phone, there is no software on the head unit, it's completely on the phone

That's good news then as car manufacturers are normally glacial with software updates for such things.

Trying to get a new car radio sorted and be told to get a kenwood with android auto integration

Looks nice and as people have said updates be on phone and not reliant on car manufactures

I pretty sure some of the Android Auto units are standalone devices.
As in, your phone isn't required.

They'd probably be the ones with some dodgy version of Android Lollipop that lets you watch YouTube and all on it (basically a tablet in your car) rather than actual Android Auto.

Well, I was thinking like the Kenwwod ones.
I mean, why are these units 400 - 500 bucks, if they are just dummy screens, and you phone does all the heavy lifting? :)

They'd have their own Kenwood UI built in too for the radio (probably DAB), mp3 playback, etc plus Carplay most likely if they have Android Auto.

Fair enough, massive disparity between what I'd pay and what they are valued at for me personally! :)

There is a standalone version of Android Auto on the way.

Yeah I think Volvo are the first in doing something different with a setup called Anrdoid Automotive that doesn't really need the phone at all and there's a specific UI built around it.

Google Assistant is apparently getting a driving mode over the summer and Waze is getting Assistant features meaning you can report traffic etc without touching the screen.

    Assistant for Waze

Seems Android Auto for the phone is going away altogether which is a massive pain in the hole. Definitely feel happy about ticking the box for it in the car now.

That actually looks much better for people who use just phones!
Pretty happy with this being inbound :)

What about yourself then, you'll have a self contained Android Auto head unit in the car?

Fingers crossed, if it ever arrives at the dealer. Been wanting one for years as every phone I have is destroyed with screen burn from Android Auto.

Doesn't look too bad but I still don't see it showing any more in a handier way than the phone version of Android Auto already does. I also really hope they don't shoehorn Google Podcasts in as the only podcast player as it's terrible.

Mozilla's new Fenix browser comes to the Play Store as a limited beta [APK Download]

Or if you don't want to go through the beta testing loopholes, you get a nightly build instead?

Or maybe the latest builds here?

OpenSource Streaming app is effectively dead as of last night. **** hit the fan in the dev community last night. Must dev's no longer supporting it.
Possible it maybe forked and relaunched as new app in a few months.

What's the best app for managing projects? Up to now I've been using checklists in Onenote or Keep but it gets a bit cumbersome and I'd like something with subsections, calendar (for due dates, etc). I don't mind paying (within reason) if it's a well made functional app with a PC version also.

For the scale you're describing, Trello would be my suggestion.

How many users do you require? If three or less then try Yodiz.

    Just for me.

I tried Trello and Wrike but both are over complicated in areas while missing some very basic features at the same time. Ended up planning it all on a GSheet.

Looks like Auto is getting a new update later in the "Summer".
I like the idea of Android being inbuilt into the car too :)

Still on the fence about almost 600 to get this in a head unit in the car

Nice to see the updates are to the phone so not reliant on the head unit /radio manufacturers if/when they update

    Balls to that man!

If you don't have BT in your car stereo, pick up something like the below one in Amazon, for £18.99 and has an extra 5% off until May 31st too :)

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Favoto-Bluetooth-Control-Hands-free-Installing/dp/B07MQSX138/ref=sr_1_7?crid=29PQIXLXJJEA1&keywords=bluetooth+car+radio&qid=1558301604&s=gateway&sprefix=bluetooth+car+%2Caps%2C158&sr=8-7

Then just use your phone in a car holder.

No way in hell I'd be handing out 600 bucks :D

In fairness the adaptors, facia labour etc are 180 alone, so that's 200 before you go looking at a double din head until

I have aux in built into car, then a good FM Bluetooth thing, then Bluetooth speaker from lidl for calls and maps etc if I don't use phone for music via aux in or FM transmitter

Thanks for the link and suggestion :)

    No bother :)

Ultimately the decision to spend that kind of money is up to you, so best of luck either way :D

Sorry man, sometimes stuff about Android Auto get's a little outside the realm of just app talk :)
