Anyway, lovely memories of her films. She was A+List in her day yet her death is basically a footnote at the end of the news.

Really shocked by this. She was a Hollywood legend

Doris Day had a whiter than white Hollywood image as the sweetheart girl you who would win your heart but in reality she was a quite complex person and was very modest and kind.

Doris Day was publicly photographed with Hollywood co-star Rock Hudson in the mid 1980s when Hudson was very visibly dying of AIDS and AIDS victims at that time were shunned and feared.

97 is superb innings. RIP. A life well lived. They don't make stars like her any more.

    Tristesse.

Always liked Oscar Levant's line "It was Doris Day's first picture - that was before she became a virgin".

Great voice. Few are as distinctive.
A lot to be said for this, for example:

Well, obviously, the end of the Day

She was like a candle in the wind.

    Whip crack away!

She was a great person. When people were speaking of being afraid to even be near someone with AIDS she had Rock Hudson on her show.

I was particularly shocked because I thought she had died years ago. Same when Omar Sharif died. And Maureen O'Hara.

97 is a fair oul age. Captain Kirk Douglas who was born on star-date 1916 hasn't crossed the final frontier yet.

By way of sacrifice, I shall not masturbate again until Ms Day is buried.

A beautiful voice. I'd never tire of hearing her sing.
    A very able actress, too.

I, too, am shocked by the death of this 97 year old woman.

I always loved her films, I loved her even more for her animal rights campaigning.

I know. I hadn't heard she was sick. So came out of the blue a bit. Still had a good innings as they say...
