Suggestions for a 144hz 1440p Monitor

Buying the monitor is the final piece to completing my build. I had planned to get the 27” Acer Nitro VG270, it has everything I want except its 60hz, not 144hz.

Anyone have any experience with this monitor? I’ve heard it’s very good but the reviews on Amazon are quite mixed and I’ve seen people say that getting 1440p 60hz is kinda pointless as the 144hz 1440p monitors aren’t much pricier but I’m struggling to find one that has all the features i’d like without almost doubling the price.

If anyone has any thoughts or experiences with the Nitro VG270 or any suggestions on a 144hz 1440p I’d love to hear it!

(The VG270 will cost me around €275, I’d be willing to go up to around the €350 mark)

HP 27xq - can't find any reviews unfortunately.
IMHO, neither 144Hz screens are a decidedly "better" pick than the VG270.

FYI the VG270Ubmiipx is £219.99 (~€258) on AmazonUK right now.

The samsung is very aesthetically pleasing but its essentially the same as the VG270 except I’m paying an extra €100 for a curved screen and no freesync, doesn’t really seem like a fair trade off? I was aware pf the discount on it right now, would you say it’s pretty good value for the money?

I'd lean more towards the VG270 alright unless you want to chance the HP 27xq - however, picture quality-wise the VG270 will be much better.

The 60hz v 144hz is really dependent on the games you're playing as well. If you're into things like Overwatch/Apex Legends/general FPS, 144hz makes a massive difference.

I wouldn't be overly worried about lack of Freesync, acceptable trade-off to get 144hz in the case of the Samsung I think. Curved screen also not worth talking about, curves on such screens add nothing, but equally take nothing away either.

Overwatch, Apex and battle royale/competitive fps aren’t my cup of tea. I’ll mostly be playing survivals like Ark and Scum and RTS’s and RPG’s. Looks like it might be in my best interests to stick with the VG270!

You'll never get ARK to run at 144fps unless you want everything to look like a potato. A 1080ti benchmarked struggles to hit 80FPS at 1080p alone.

SCUM is in a very similar boat. Won't get anywhere near an acceptable framerate to make a 144hz worth the buy.

It’s funny you’d mention it because I plan to upgrade to a 1080ti by the end of the year =P also figured out last night that the VG270 can go to 75hz, not 60hz so my decision just became a lot easier!

That monitor is double the OP's budget, is known to have black light bleeding issues with the IPS panel unless you are super lucky or are happy to return it over and over to get a good panel.

from reviews on other sites the backlight bleeding doesn't seem to as an issue.

The responce time on it is pretty bad from the reviews and user feedback I saw when looking to upgrade at the start of the year.

No need to apologize for hijacking, I’m happy to see other suggestions =P none of them seem to compare to the VG270 in terms of value for money, I like the look of the curved samsung but its just an argument of whether you prefer freesync or 144hz, considering I won’t be able to get to 140fps with my current gpu and game selection it just makes sense to get the 75hz freesync VG270

my new build i will be able to get high fps but starting to over run my budget :pac:
but may have scope to go with cheaper parts (non RGB stuff) so i can get that monitor such as the 600 pound asus PG279Q monitor

Thanks will check on that but first the problem is what monitor....... Backlight bleeding seems to be a common issue that comes up in reviews. I would have thought splashing out on a 500 or 600 pound monitor would have some quality to it.

IPS monitors from all brands are prone to suffering from BLB as the panels are made by only a couple of manufacturers so the selection is limited. Acer and Asus, for example, both use the same manufacturer for their monitor panels. Unlike any other PC component except maybe high-end audio, when it comes to monitors it's not a simple case of the higher the cost the better the performance as with CPU's or GPU's.

Check out monitors with VA panels which offers the fast refresh rate of a TN panel along with the better picture and colours of an IPS but without any of the major downsides of either such as BLB and washed out colours.
