My sat signal went out a few weeks ago so I bought this sat finder which is supposed to be simple to use. Supposed to be!

I've turned on my TV, sky box, went out to the lnb, removed the cable and incerted it into the receiver part of the finder..got new piece of cable, incerted it into the sat part of the finder and then into the lnb. Nothing! No lights, no sounds etc..

Then I'm thinking it must be something to do with the wire. I then got some cable, incerted into the back of the box and into the finder. Still nothing :(

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Connect sat finder between receiver and lnb. Make sure Sat box is on (not in standby) and turn sensitivity down to its lowest until the needle starts to respond. Adjust dish until needle maxes out then increase sensitivity. Repeat until needle is at its most sensitive. If you have the sat receiver on and sensitivity is at its least sensitive with no response, 1. Check cabling is tightly connected on the receiver. 2. Dish alignment may be a long way off. 3. Less likely, but sat finder could possibly be faulty.

    Take pictures and post.

You're better off not powering anything up until all connections are made, but that's probably not the cause of your problem.

Maybe the Sky box LNB power has failed: was there any sign of water in the cable, or maybe green discolouration?

You don't need a gadget to align a dish. The sky dish is super easy to align. The vertical alignment is set into the dish when it is dead vertical.

    Use this site:

See what landmark the line goes through and point the dish at that.

I'm afraid there is need. Try telling that to a professional installer. Very accurate adjustments to pick up something so small at 22k miles away! Your talking millimetres for alignment.
