    Brunei has reversed its decision to impose the death penalty for gay sex:

    This is very good news. It shows that campaigning and pressure from the international community can make a difference to LGBT people who are oppressed and marginalised in many parts of the world.

    Obviously there a mountain to climb in this regard - especially with respect to the Middle East and Africa and Islamic nations in general where a culture of homophobia and oppression of women is prevalent, but it shows that campaining and lobbying does work.

    I think in fact that the law has not been reversed - they Sultan just stated that it won't be applied.

    Execution by stoning for being gay is still on the statute books.
