Is there any grants available for these? If so is it worth applying for the 40%. I'm in my early 30's and apparently I'm an old farmer

You'd get 60% as qualified young farmer, no?

You'll have to jump through a few hoops but my general belief is that you'll end up for a better spec'd shed, done right, for a bit less money compared to just going ahead yourself and doing it. Will take longer of course too.

Unfortunately I've been farming for 5 years or more for my sins which makes me an old farmer apparently

No grants for a Hayshed but what lads are doing is building the shed as a dungstore for which their are grants available.

I would have imagined you'd do better putting in for a cattle shed. I assume that if someone has hay, he has animals to "justify" it.

What are the grant specs for dungstore like? I'd imagine you're putting more a lot more concrete into the walls and probably floor for that. Which way does a dungstore have to slope? For cattle shed I think that there is a certain fall you have to have out of the shed, but you also need a "drain" or channel to collect run off. Yeah, you'll have stronger walls but there is a limit at which it just becomes something that you'll never need.
