    Hi,

I am opening a new laundry business. I have a retail unit which is ideal. It was an electrical wholesalers before hand.

Do I need a certain type of planning permission for a launderette in Ireland or can just move into this unit.

    Any advise is appreciated

    Thanks

You might need permission for change of use, but this might only be a formality - people are unlikely to object.

If you are do dry cleaning, the chemical may have fire safety implications, which might need fire safety certification and landlord approval.

I dont think you even need permission for the change of use tbh. A launderette is classed as a shop under the regs so therefore under Part 4 of the regs, if the subsequent use is a shop, you don't need change of use. Talk to local arch/AT about Fire Cert/DAC. If you are making changes to the layout you may need a fire cert and dac.

    Many thanks for this Ray.

How long does it take to get a fire cert, who issues these?

    Dublin Fire Brigade.
Current wait times around 3 months after lodgement.
